SNAP! ARGHHHhhhhhhhh!!!!!

Re: SNAP! ARGHHHhhhhhhhh!!!!!

Also TS -if once the Titebond glue is added and drys, the guitar can now be used as a lethal pole axe weapon in all kinds of fascinating new attack styles.

Re: SNAP! ARGHHHhhhhhhhh!!!!!

And - yeah...Gibson headstocks can break. They are not the mega-death break beasts that everyone says.

But - that pitched angle is the price you pay for some extra tension/sustain.

FYI - 50-60's break. 80's- current break. Norlin, not so much; 3 piece maple neck stronger than Hulk

Re: SNAP! ARGHHHhhhhhhhh!!!!!

I've broken a '66, an '86 and now an '05 kind of hoping it's the last :smash:

Re: SNAP! ARGHHHhhhhhhhh!!!!!

my other 2 were in '89 & '90, hopefully I live long enough to break one in 2040 lol

Re: SNAP! ARGHHHhhhhhhhh!!!!!

Hahaha, yea I was joking... at first glance (last night) it seemed like every 20yrs you were going thru them, until you posted... just making light of it bro cause Im sure you've been through all the usual emotions by this point..

Any updates on it yet?
Fwiw, I would NOT get the notion in your head that it's going to sound different so don't over think it...It'll still be your buddy, but much stronger.

1970-1979 are conspicuously absent in that list. Just sayin'

And the only thing you are gonna break in 2040 is the wind or a hip!

Re: SNAP! ARGHHHhhhhhhhh!!!!!

I can’t imagine the feeling you had when it happened. Fortunately it will be fixed and probably better than new when it’s done. I will be extra careful with mine.

Re: SNAP! ARGHHHhhhhhhhh!!!!!

Sorry, man. Most of us know that sickening feeling. My favorite LP Junior has a headstock repair that I glued about 15+ years ago. Never bothered to fix the finish, even though it's an opaque-finished neck. I just glued it and played it. It's still as great a guitar as ever.

Do you have a clear or translucent neck finish?

You noticed that huh? lol I think most of my 70's guitars have been MIJ, an SG or a Dean or 2 maybe but no LP's

Whatever Gibson used on the Standard Faded, never seemed like much more than a sealer. I don't imagine I'll do much finish work unless I refin the whole guitar. I was thinking about making it a lemonburst someday so who knows?

Yup I should have it back in a few days. I was more upset that it happened than I was worried about it being able to go back together again. I'll post some pics when I get it back for sure

Hey - it's easy to be chill in the bleachers. Like when I see a kid get hit with a wild pitch at baseball. I think "cool, we got a base". The actual parent has a somewhat different reaction.

Those who haven't broken one know the feeling from just the fear that it might during a fall, or even an almost fall...

Looking forward to the repair post!

Re: SNAP! ARGHHHhhhhhhhh!!!!!

 Nothing a couple of drywall screws and some duct tape can't fix!

Re: SNAP! ARGHHHhhhhhhhh!!!!!

OK so it's all fixed

Really thankful it went back together so well. I didn't want any finish work done to it, I want to be able to see the repair. Happily it doesn't appear to have suffered any ill side effects from the accident other than the scar.
