So, I got the JCM800

:D Man what a great amp this is! I was a bit worried that it wouldn't have enough gain... Was that silly of me or what? It might not have much gain by todays standards, but the voicing fits the amount of gain perfectly, and it still sounds extremely heavy and punchy.
Pics and clips will come soon :D

You!, from the land of the greatest Shredder ever( Yngwie J. Malmsteen) and you doubted the Marshall JCM ? Put a Good Tube Screamer in front of it or any great gain Pedal.
No, it wont get you to the land of the Bogners, Diezels, VHT's, Framus, Soldanos and the like, but to some folks thats a good thing.
Less compression/dynamics often translates to more organic tone.

Eeeek! Took the words out of my mouth! If it's good enough for Yngwie it's good enough for YOU! Also a tube screamer like the OD9 will give you killer sounds! Congratulations! Great amp.

Re: So, I got the JCM800

Excellent news! Nothing worse than being anxious about a purchase whilst waiting for it to turn up.... wondering if you made the right choice! Glad you did... good call.

Re: So, I got the JCM800

I have a bad monkey to boost it with, it's kind of like a tubescreamer but with separate bass/high controls so you don't lose your low end. It's a 2204 btw.

We have our rehearsal space at our singers place, **** I cant wait for him to wake up so I can go there and raise some hell :D

Re: So, I got the JCM800

First of all Congrats-2204 is one of my all time fave amps- JMP or 800, a 50 MV marshall is a thing of beauty :D

Second- Yngwie doesn't use them. 1987 NMVs ( from the 71-74 period) are his choice, and a different beast they are- more raw- more "out of control" and def harder to play than an 800.

Re: So, I got the JCM800

Enjoy.

Try this setting Pres.6, Bass, Mid, Treb, all at 5, Pre at 7, Master at 4 YUM on mine. LOUD!!!!

Oh man, enjoy it. To me, plugging into a Marshall is tone Nirvana. It's like entering the gates of heaven. It's like......ROCK AND METAL AND BLUES ROLLED INTO ONE, HAHAHAHAHA.

Re: So, I got the JCM800

Guys lets start a huge thread in the tips and clips section where we all post clips of our JCM800s? :D With different guitars, pickups, speakers, mods, pedals etc, could be quite interesting!

Re: So, I got the JCM800

I have a 4010 (the combo version of the 2204), and it is without a doubt the best thing I've ever played through. I run mine much cleaner than I'm sure most with JCM800s do, and it sounds beautiful. It can really do ANYTHING, and that's what I love about it--unlike most amps with it's versatility, it sounds good doing everything, not just at a few things.

Re: So, I got the JCM800

Hi all i was considering this, but is it way too loud for home practise?

Yes, absolutely 100% too loud! I plan to use it for larger gigs, and now I use it to rehearse with a loud drummer, another guitar and a bass. For a great sounding practice amp, check out the vox valvetronix.

Re: So, I got the JCM800

IMO, no. I have a 77 JMP 50 watt, which is kinda the same amp. At reasonable volumes it sounds okay and cranked it sounds great. If you can deal with okay to good at practice levels, then go for it. Better yet, see if someone in your area is selling one and go check it out and play it at levels you would practice at. I had an 81 JCM800 many years ago and I thought it sounded fine at low levels. Wonderful things those master volumes, ha ha.

Depends on how dirty you like to play. They tend to be a bit clean for harder stuff at practice level unless you boost it with a pedal or practice really loud. If you want a Marshall-ish sounding tube practice amp, check out the H&K Edition Tube 20. Sounds great at low level, capable of being loud as hell, and goes from Plexi to extreme metal.

Is the H&K that good? I considered getting one of those before I got my orange which is loud as hell.

I haven't personally played an 800, but I'd imagine it's like all other marshalls where you have to crank em up to get that marshall sound. That's all good in a live setting, but your neighbors will hate you.
