So i saw and played the EVH Frankenstrat replica today....

Re: So i saw and played the EVH Frankenstrat replica today....

Well the one I played was HEAVY- as heavy, if not heavier than my Les Paul- it wasn't featherweight at all.

ok now see that is weird to me. How can the one i played be feather light and the one played Heavy??????
I totally believe you, but isnt that a tad bit weird???
From light to heavy i would believe it would sound radically different with the same parts on it.

That is why i thought it was so weird, cause everyone i have read that has played the thing has said it was heavy. Or at least 8.5 pounds.
This one had to be under 7.
That is a big difference.

any ideas??

;)
Sorry I am terrible today.....
Wood is not consistant....as long as it sounds like they want it to...then I guess the weight is more less nonimportant!

Re: So i saw and played the EVH Frankenstrat replica today....

i know wood aint consistent but it is hard for me to believe that with all the trouble they went through to make the perfect replica that the weight wasnt taken into consideration.

plus with all things being equal and in this case all guitars have the exact same hardware how on earth could the sound be the same with that big a difference in weight?
i could understand with a few ounces of difference but not that.

Re: So i saw and played the EVH Frankenstrat replica today....

How many were made? You'd think with Fender's mass resources and for $25,000 a pop, or whatever they are, They could get a body blank that sounds good and is the correct spec weight.

I very much agree w/ KGMESSIER, it's an ultimate version of a personalized guitar. I love Gilmour, but I bet I wouldn't love his black or his red Strat. I'm sure they are very nice, but they aren't mine, you know?

Re: So i saw and played the EVH Frankenstrat replica today....

yeah i dont have a problem with me not liking it at all. I know very well what the whole thing is about. i just was stating that i thought it was a piece of very well put together junk.
I didnt say that they didnt know what they were doing. it really is a masterpiece sort of in a demented way. I just couldnt believe what a piece of junk he played! lol

i thought it was funny.

the only thing that threw me off was the weight.

Re: So i saw and played the EVH Frankenstrat replica today....

I played one and the sound was just killer, I would set it up a little differently. It wasn't unplayable, but not as nice it could be with a little TLC. Judging by the look of it, TLC was not part of Ed's equation.

Re: So i saw and played the EVH Frankenstrat replica today....

I read multiple times that his guitars were set up in the weirdest way, I particulalry remember many saying that he liked his action insanely high and his intonation all backwards.

It just was made to be played by him.
I fully expected it to be real awkwardly set up but I'd at least expect it to resonate like crazy...

Re: So i saw and played the EVH Frankenstrat replica today....

There's an interview with EVH where he used a black sharpie to write all over the back of the original Frankie so he could tell it apart from the replicas. You know, if he doesn't have 20/20 vision it probably would be very difficult for him to tell them apart. I doubt he's going over it with a fine tooth comb like we would to see if it's a match.

EVH also said the replicas play and sound better than the original.

I was just remembering this morning that before the tour with that other singer, there was this video shot at a rehearsal where he tipped his guitar to show everyone the giant fret markers he put on the side of the neck. They were huge. They might have been put there with a paint brush or something.

I don't recall what kind of guitar that was by now. It might have been one of those Peavey guitars.

It was on youtube, but I can't find it there now.

Re: So i saw and played the EVH Frankenstrat replica today....

It is a total POS! i cant believe up close how 'rough' the guitar really is.

I read an interview with EVH about how he "worked" on his guitars. If he was a luthier, he'd be in jail. The guy can play, but he's completely incompetent working on guitars. Give a 10-year kid a hammer, chisel, circular saw, and a guitar, and he'll probably do to it what Eddie did to a few of his. What a hack.

Luckily for that hack, he's managed to sell 80+ million albums, and put VH on the top twenty list of all time best selling artists.

Great idea for a company!

"Furniture Guitars: We make guitars that look and play like coffee tables." :)
