So Les Paul Invented The First Guitar Looping Effect Eh...Pretty Cool

Re: So Les Paul Invented The First Guitar Looping Effect Eh...Pretty Cool

That was awesome. Cool how he pretty much made himself a one man band. I know it is only a small loop, but it is still impressive.

At his age, there should be more written about him, and more stories on his life. It's going to be a very sad day in the guitar world when he passes, and tons of stories will come out then.

I like seeing him get praise while he's still around.

Have you seen the recent "American Masters" piece on Les whatever the series is? I think its' called "Chasing Sound" and there's a DVD out... it was on public TV, like channel 13 just several weeks ago.

Great, great bit.

Les also invented the modern multi-track. In the early 50's he had the Ampex company stack a couple of tape machines together... they told him it would never work!

50+ years later... the industry has expanded his original idea and even gone past it!

'Sound-on-Sound'

Without Les nobody would own a cassette 4-track or anything else!

Have ya'll seen the log? I'm sure you have if you know about Les and his inventions. I love how Gibson basically laughed in his face when he presented it to them, then when other companies started coming out with electrics, they came begging to him to work with him. Had I been him, I woulda told em to shove it and started my own guitar company. Can you imagine if Les Paul wasn't just a specific model, but a whole company? Gibson probly wouldn't be around today.

Les is SOOOOOOOOOOOO underappreciated it's unbelievable. He is THE MAN period. And he can RAWK/BURN/SHRED/SMOKE you name it. I would really like to see him at that Iridium gig he does every wednesday? before he goes....

I agree. I wish I could go see him play and get to meet him. From all the accounts I've read/heard, he is a genuinely nice down to earth kinda guy, which makes me like him and respect what he's done all that much more. I wonder how many LP guitars he owns? I know he has TONS of gadgets in his basement, I read an article/interview with him in GW a few yrs ago and he said he still noodles around with electronics and comes up with weird stuff.

Wow, that playing was amazing! I'm really impressed ;) I never really knew much about him but this was cool.

Two sets every Monday.

About two years ago on a Monday afternoon in November I decided that I was going that night. Dunno why. I had always wanted to go but never did or something would pop up and I'd have to cancel... but like, I was driving home from the grocery store or whatever and it HIT me... I gotta go see him tonight!

Anyway, it was a total blast. Sat nice & close to the stage, not that the Iradium is all that big to begin with... but close enough to see that he had a few Boss pedals and no amp! Just direct in...

I brought my LP special and the top flange from a reel of tape for him to sign and some guys from my table bought a T-shirt to have him sign... I was near the top of the line which wrapped all the way around the club twice and he laughed like a little kid when I pulled out the reel! I had him sign the back of the headstock... figured that was a safe place...

He only autographs Gibsons... won't sign a Fender or a Gretsch...

Some guy way behind me had a Martin... wonder how that went over... hahahaha

If you can't see him in person at least get that new DVD... think I saw it advertised in Guitar Player... or Vintage Guitar... probably both!

You Rule! It's not often you can take something back to the VERY beginning. But without Les, there would be no Ace. Or Page, or Billy G. .....you get the picture. I remember seeing a film of him and eddie VH. ed was just intimidated to hell by him. As we ALL should be! Les can just rip anytime he wants. 70 + years of practice will do that for ya!

Yeah, I did see that and I never get enough of that type of stuff! I like it when Guitar Player does articles on him too.

I really need to spend some of my savings and go see that cat one day before he dies.

And as for Eddie.....he absolutely loves and adores Les Paul...it's rather evident here. It could be the booze in his system, but I still think it's from his heart.:) I think I'd kiss Les Paul as well.

I think it's a pretty safe bet that if it hadn't been for Les, a lot of us probably wouldn't be on this forum right now.
