I have been talking about going tube for awhile, but I haven't done it. I find SS and Modelers to be safe. I Know what I am getting. To me Tube amps are so... mysterious??
There are so many tones out there. So many amps that are one trick ponies, and others that do it all. Over the past year and a half I've played AC 15s and 30s, Orange AD30s, several Mesas, 5150s, Classic 30s. High end and entry level... and I can't figure out what I want.
I have a tone... or a set of tones in my head, but I haven't found one amp that hits them all. I can do without high gain out of the box as long as I can get it with a pedal.
I want a sparkly clean tone. I've played some Vox and Fender amps that hit in the ball park. I also want a nice crunch... The AC30 was very close to it, and the Orange AD30 did a great job of nabbing that tone. Not too dirty. All the notes still had their distinction, but it had balls all the same. I'd even say the Mesa DC-2 I played captured parts of the crunch I was looking for.
I am thinking something no more than 30 watts... I want a 2 channel amp, but starting to consider looking into some single channel amps.
There was nothing in there to help you guys really help point me towards anything... but what do you think?
Oh and as far as my budget goes I would like to keep it around $1,000 and I will more than likely try and pick it up used.
