So many new amps, which one?

Re: So many new amps, which one?

I'm kinda 50/50 on whether I'll be investing in a new amp this year. I'm kinda into the idea and kinda not, so I guess I probably won't. I have to admit, the higher wattage Tweakers are seriously interesting. I'd really like to get my hands on something Orange, too.

I will definitely be keeping my eye out for a decent 2x12" though.

Re: So many new amps, which one?

There's a ton of cool amps out there at all levels now. It's made it really hard to decide on anything unfortunately. I'm only planning on buying 2 amps this year, and one of them will be a Tweaker for certain. The other could be a Mesa Trans Atlantic, the Bogner Panama has a lot of potential for a relatively decent price. I'm hoping the Class 5 head sounds as good as the combo, so it's also up there on the list as well.

I'm really trying to stay away from high wattage heads. I just don't have any place to really open them up, but there's a few on the list that I'd like to get at some point in time.

Re: So many new amps, which one?

that's a bit premature, wouldn't you say? :28:

Possibly. :)

But still...I think Yngwie's idea of the perfect Marshall is pretty much the same as mine. And the clip I heard sounded good. The thing I don't like about these limited production amps is that they're pre-order only, and never even sit on a sales floor.

Re: So many new amps, which one?

Depends. There's a Mark V that I'm sure I can get for $1,400-1,500 as the seller is desperate to move it.

Other than that I might pick up a Voltage 412VB with Veteran 30's. But likewise money is tight this year.

Re: So many new amps, which one?

Just saw some youtube of Metropolous (spelling?) JTM45/100.... WANT!

Re: So many new amps, which one?

Probably save up some gig cash and find a used Tweaker. They're coming in under $300 now. If I need high power, I'll just bring the Music Man out.

Re: So many new amps, which one?

I sure would like to get a new amp but it seems that the finances won't allow for it. I really don't have any extra gear to sell or trade for it either.

If the situation changes I'll be looking for a bigger amp, 50w minimum. The YJM one looks very nice but I wonder what the prices will be over here. A used RI Marshall could be found for a nice price. I'm mostly after something british... Maybe an Orange would be good too?

Re: So many new amps, which one?

Friedman Marsha has my interest. But the funds will probably never be there............

that a hotrodded marshall clone with the browneye (yuck) mod?

Hmm.. I hadnt heard of the YJM yet.. Im suprised GJ said its high gain.. I didnt think he was known to use too much gain.. I'll have to check it out. I thought the big news from Marshall was just the slash one this year..
What is the reliability issue on that one?

I'm a fan of all tones, and prefer British amps from crystal clean through plexi, and Cantrell/Bonamassa type highgain. Creamy and Marshally....not metallic and crunchy. That's why I like Matchless, Bogner, and hotrodded plexi type amps.

Re: So many new amps, which one?

yeah, pretty much where my taste lies.. Id LOVE a Jose Marshall! I love Brown tone and hot rodded JCM800 type.. My Splawn is real close to perfect. Love to try an XTC sometime.

I love both of these, but way to pricey for my blood!

Re: So many new amps, which one?

retro channel rr-1
head weighs 12 pounds
if they put it in a combo that has a neo speaker and the whole thing weighs 20 to 25 lbs, i'd be hard pressed to pass

the only other thing that has me holdin gmy cash is the fact that they will be making a dumble clone in the same style ....

very cool

Yep, and those Ford F-Series pickups are soooo last year!

Yeah, so maybe it was an overstatement. I do think that Fender should be at least a little worried. There are a lot of new amps that are much cheaper, sound better and are just more interesting than the HRDlx.

Re: So many new amps, which one?

I did not care much for the Marshall Class 5.

Purchased Celtic Austin instead and am quite pleased with it!

Watch for clips on www.celticamplifiers.com soon as Scott get's them up. (Which will be after I e-mail them to him)
