..NOT! as evidenced by this ; John Fogerty and his vintage Kustom Solid State amps with 2x15's;
I don't care if it's made of dried up doo doo crystals, fish guts, and tree limbs.
I crack up when I see posts "How do I get ____'s guitar tone"
Does anyone have any experience with Lab Series amps? SS, looks like from the 70s. One (200 watt L11) turned up at our practice space and it looked like it could crush all skulls.
:bigok: If I were a star with roadies and techs to schlep and setup, It would always be a tube amp. BUT reality is I'm not, and I'm getting older so weight and bulk matters more each day.I'll play through any damn amp as long as I can get a sound I like. I don't care if it's made of dried up doo doo crystals, fish guts, and tree limbs.
I've never really liked the sound of Orange amps, but their new 35 watt Crush combo sounds pretty good with a Les Paul. Whenever I play through a ss though, I feel like I have to roll back the tone slightly in order to tame the highs if I'm playing on the bridge pickup. Maybe I don't know how to set the amp, but I just find it sounds better that way.
I tried a Blackstar 100 watt HT amp at the local shop today, and was surprised at how much I preferred my solid state Blackstar head. Just couldn't dial in the HT to my sound, and the SS is exactly the way I want it.
