Nah, not making fun at all. I'm a huge MA and Trey Azagtoth fan. I've mentioned before that I've never played a gig sober and he apparently takes the same approach, I totally get that... plus he like me he could'nt give two hoots for music theory and pretty much has the same "if it's not for you move on..." as far as his playing/music is concerned. He like doing things his way & so do I...

I've often shared that in here as well. Just jokingly pointing out how alike we apparently think. I think his problem is more alchohol/weed than hardcore drugs from what I've heard and I was pretty concerned when I heard he collapsed on stage the other day. Did'nt realize it had gone that far. I wish him all the best and a speedy recovery...dude is one of my biggest idols and influences..

Pretty sure that's obvious here...

My Sennheiser e906 order turned out to be a bust. The seller shipped me an e945 instead with a note saying the 906 was out of stock (?) . Needless to say I sent it back (cuz it's for vocals) and that's that ..at least for now. Anyway..I do have few cheap condenser's so here's one with my AKG P121. I really wanted the 906so I could drape it over the cab 'cuz he whole mic'ing w/ a stand thing is a bit of a PIA for me :lmao:

Anyway...Just the amp. No FX & nothing in the loop..


I think that's a pretty sweet raw lead tone that can be polished up in the DAW if need be..it's also pretty accurate compared to the sound in the room though I had the volume turned down pretty low..

Settings on the amp: Bass @ 2:00 o'clock, Middle: 2' oclock, treble 12:00 o'clock. Should have dialed the bass back and pushed the treble up a bit...I had it set up for a sweet Sabbath-y rhythm tone & did'nt want to mess that up...so...

I also have an sE X1A and a no-name Chinese condenser so maybe I'll try something with those as well...

Recorded with my new Mackie Onyx Producer 2.2 interface with I got for $50 (MRP $150..so 75% off on Amazon). Thought there might be a catch but it was brand new/sealed and works/sounds great. A lot more transparent sounding than my Audient ID4 which colors the sound (in a pleasant way though). .

Yeah, it's in response to the comment I quoted in post # 41 (which is apparently gone now)...but the gist of it is I would'nt ever make fun of the dude..cuz a) I always play drunk myself & b) we're all huge Morbid Angel fans in the band..

Frankly I can tell neither the tone nor the feel apart from one of my tube amps..


One problem I do have though is knowing where to put the mic since I can't see past the speaker grill ..even if i shine a light on it. It's all just guesswork..

It really should be more based on aural feedback than visual. I can help remove a lot of the guesswork and “dumb luck” if you’re interested. There is definitely a process (more than one depending on the engineer) to get the desired result every time, to even capture the sound as you hear it in the room.

By the way, cheap chinese condensors are the secret weapon of Meshuggah and Clawfinger.
 
Yeah ,you're right.I'm a guy who follows his ears for everything , so why not mic positioning?

It's pretty much impossible to get a look through through the grill cloth anyway...there's just no way :laugh2:

Last night after recordingt he clips I posted, that's exactly what I thought I'd do...so I basically just moved the mic around trying to listen for the sweet spot. Unlike with dynamics, I think my condensers sound better with some distance between them and the grill (4-5 inckes). I had them up right against the grill cloth before and they sound way better backed off (less boomy/bassy)

Recorded this clip that way & it def sounds clearer backed off...


OhI'm a big fan of cheap gear ...Chinese or otherwise :lmao:

Still going to get the e906 when I can...just to hear what it sounds like :bigthumb:

My Charvel that I've been using to record those clips with (cuz it was the only axe I had handy that was in tune) had 2 year old/dead strings on it...

In fact I'm pretty sure I could get the mic closer now & it would still sound fine...damn. now i'll have to redo all the clips .. :laugh2:
 
^^ Yeah, it is. That's kind of why I bought this amp really. I have bunch of amps that give me hard rock/metal tones of all descriptions. But this one has that 70's / early Sabbath vibe...

But at the same it has oodles of gain (probably way more than was ever available in the 70's :laugh2:) which I like for shredding and stuff. But it's got it own thing going on for lead tones as well...they're pretty sweet but they're pretty different...

Here's one last one w/ the AKG up against the grill. Playing my Ibanez SA (cuz newish strings)..then I'm just going to sit tight till my Captor X gets here so I can hook that up & carry on :D

And again w/ my SA with something on the neck single coil pup as well.. The amp sounds and feels great for shredding single coils..


 
Thanks Dank! This amp is a very worthy addition to my SS amp stable (Along with my AMT Stonehead & Randall T2 hybrid). Just found my old Audio Technica MB2K dynamic mic (pretty similar to a SM57). So here's another clip with lots of sloppy squealies :lmao:

 
Tried my Cort with Fishman's with a Cheap analog delay pedal in the loop (Mooer Ana Echo) + onboard reverb...

 
I'd have done this sooner but my Mooer GE300 modeler has'nt worked since I dropped it a few weeks ago. It's something non-serious to do with the input jack though. It works fine if I can get it to turn on. The power supply wire was connected when I dropped it off it's stand (music notation stand) and it seems to have wrenched something in there after the fall. There's no visible sign of damage & it actuallly worked for the most part after that for a couple of weeks if I twisted/wiggled the jack around in the socket (as in it switched on and worked perfectly) but then it went dead and I have'nt been able to get it to switch on until yesterday, when it worked again and switched on suddenly. (but now it's gone dead again)

So I hooked it up to the preamp output (FX send) from the CR120 going into my Randall T2 patch (replaced the Randall tone capture/amp sim with the CR120) and used it with the rest of the effects chain in that patch..DI out to my new Mackie audio interface..


Funnily enough I can't use my Hotone Ampero either cuz I l forgot the power supply/adaptor at our last gig (had it in the loop of my AMT Stonehead amp for a bit of Delay/reverb..) So I am currently w/o my two favorite modelers.. :(
 
Something a bit bluesier... cuz this amp actually rules for anything from blues to hard rock :bigthumb:

As far as the recording goes...it's mic'd with my Audio Technica MB2K up close (I actually just bought another one the other day , they're excellent value for about $50. So now I have two). and I threw the TC Electronic Mojo Mojo drive I got a short while ago in front, just to see.

Some onboard reverb from the amp & my little Zoom G1X Four modeler in the amp's loop for a bit of delay..

 
All thsi time I've had this amp I did'nt realize there was a liitlte toggle to switch between 3 types of onboard reverb (Plate, Hall, Spring).I've had it on Plate all along ..but here it is with the hall setting. It's a bit excessive ...should have dialed it back a little from where I had it before when I switched positions but eh....next time :laugh2:



Tbh Hall is probably my worst setting (at least for shred) ..both plate and spring are pretty cool/sound sweet though :bigthumb:

Yep, Hall does'nt sound half bad dialed back a bit , especially for the slower bluesier stuff..


Actually been getting consistently better recorded tones as it's getting easier to find the sweet spot for the mics..

Also really like the sound of the stock speakers a whole lot the more I play them. I guess they're probably broken in nicely now as well...
