Solo boost help!

Re: Solo boost help!

You sure that TS won't add mids to the tone, even with the gain down?

It'll probably bump up the mids a little bit, but all the guy was asking for was a little more volume. The bump to the mids should help him cut though the band anyway . . . .

Re: Solo boost help!

^I aint too sure about that...whenever I have used a TS type pedal after my other dist/OD/fuzz, it alters the tone a lot. I use a Tubulator(supposed to be a TS9 clone) but have seen the same thing with a TS808 RI. It will add quite a bit of mids, cut off high end + any fuzz and also take away the big bass. It does allow you to immediately achieve a smooth, cutting lead tone at a stomp, if that is your thing. Moreover, these types never have too much boost on tap. SO, you can consider clean boosts or look through the thousands of modified TS clones in the market.

Re: Solo boost help!

i gave up trying to find a solo boost that will work in front of a crunchy amp... so i bought a custom made amp switcher and just switch to a whole different amp head for more gain and volume....

and now a days with 2-3 channel amps i'm in heaven..

Re: Solo boost help!

Some good (and some bad) suggestions so far.

If the TS-9 in the loop doesn't work for you, or if you don't dig the tone you're getting, I'd try an EQ pedal. Keep in mind what you're actually looking for: an apparent increase in volume, not necessarily an increase in output. You may notice that if you boost - and even cut - certain frequencies, the apparent volume will increase. This is especially true if you're trying to boost your level relative to other musicians in a band.
