Some Bogner Ecstacy Questions

I'm about to buy a Bogner Ecstacy I can get for a really good price, but there's one catch. It's an american model so it's 110V.
Here in Holland we have 230V in our sockets.
There is a 'trafo' or transformer with it that solves the problem but I'm not too keen on it.
Would taking it to a tech to convert the amp be a big hassle/expensive?
Should I just go at it?

Does this amp has much gain on tap? I'm not too familiar with it but I'm looking aroud the net now for more info/soundclips of this amp.
I'm talking modern high-gain here.

Also any things I should look out for?
Specific type of series? (I noticed there are different type Ecstacy's)
Is this amp mod friendly? (I'm thinking of having it modded if the gain isn't enough for me)

Modding an Ecstacy for more gain......
You gotta be kidding me!

Check out the mp-3's!

I know, it's pure insanity! :laugh2: Still, there is a mod for the red channel that runs about $150 or so.

Better yet, get an Uberschall! That thing has stupid amounts of gain! The clips make me laugh! :laugh2:

Re: Some Bogner Ecstacy Questions

So you guys are sying I should get it?
I just want a good tube amp that covers all the bases from sparkling cleans to full out in your face high-gain metal.
I've listened to the soundclips and I'm still wondering how much gain it would have.
clip 012 sounds like the tone I'm looking for but I'd like it to have a little more grind.

I'm the kind of guy who loves the sound of rectifiers and that kind of grinding amps that are being slammed by many tone 'experts' who claim they are oversaturated and compressed. (Just a little background from my point of view, I hope I haven't offended anyone now)

MRID, I doubt it would be easy to just get an Ubershall instead, it might be more suited for my needs but I've come acros this fine deal now. What kind of mod were you talking about?

PM Gearjonser. He will probably be able to help you.

He seems to be offline right now, let's hope he'll find this thread as soon as he logs on.

It's a standard mod listed on the Bogner website that increases the gain on the XTC's red channel.

I hope it won't be nessicary, and if I have it done, I hope some tech here can do it as well.

Re: Some Bogner Ecstacy Questions

Sweet, I just made an appointment to test it out tomorrow. Duncans through a Bogner XTC must be tone heaven!

I'm not shure what things to look out for in this amp.
If anyone can help me with a sort of checking routine I should do, I'd be very gratefull.

(I'm kinda skeptic because the price is really good so with my luck there has to be something fishy going on and I want to make shure I don't come home with a lemon)

First of all, if it's up for sale, don't talk about it, BUY IT! They go QUICK!
If the guy is giving you a step up transformer to go between the wall and the amp, jump on it even quicker!

The Ecstasy is the best multi channel amp ever made, so it's basically "a mod in a box"
It is definitely NOT an amp that should be touched by anyone other than Bogner's staff. They designed it to be the perfect amp, and it lives up to it's reputation, provided you have a fresh set of Svetlana or Tesla tubes, and Chinese 12AX7's.
I've put every type of 12AX7 in it, and Reinholdt is right....Chinese.
There are different Ecstasies, but any one with EL-34's is the standard one. Most likely, the one you're looking at is a regular 101B. Don't buy all the hype about Classics and 100B's. They're all equally killer. I'm curious to know how much you can get it for, but DON'T DELAY, BUY IT ASAP. Your search for an amp will be over for life, because there won't ever be anything that can beat it. It "out vintages" vintage amps, and "out techs" new amps.

Re: Some Bogner Ecstacy Questions

As for gain on tap?? It'll run over a Marshall or Mesa like an 18 wheeler going over a field mouse. :laugh2: I can get liquid sustain that's a mile wide with the gain at 1:00 and the structure switch on heavy.

That's the thing...whatever you're looking for can be found by clicking a couple switches and turning a couple knobs.

Re: Some Bogner Ecstacy Questions

And still if he isnt giving you a step down transformer im sure there not that pricey at all, but theye a bit heavey for there size..

Re: Some Bogner Ecstacy Questions

Thanks for replying everyone!

It's a 1 hour drive for me but I think it'll be worth it. Can't wait to test it!
Are those pre eq sets on the Bogner site any good?

I notice there is no reverb?

Re: Some Bogner Ecstacy Questions

If you test it, start with all knobs at the 12:00 position, then tweak from there.
Make sure you use all of the tone shaping switches above the knobs. Structure switch makes it more Marshall-like, or more Rectifier-like. With everything dialed for highgain, it matches the Uberschall.

Thanks GJ, I'll make shure to try every knob and switch.
Lol, I just spend half the morning reading about this amp on the Bogner site and some user reviews.
The more I read about it the more I begin to like it.

Re: Some Bogner Ecstacy Questions

Just wanted to say I got it! I tested the amp through a pretty messed up Marshall 4x12 and it sounded great!
Everything seems to be ok and functioning.

Now I need to find a good cab and then I'll be the only person on this planet who playes a MIK Ibanez through a Bogner Ecstacy, :laugh2: .
