Looks like the "buys" have it by a landslide margin!! I wont say buy it, I'll simply say that I look forward to reading your review!! :dance: As a fellow Explorer wielder, (2002 Black with mirror pickguard and truss cover and chrome pup rings) Im so excited for you! They are tough and offer a little tonal variation from the Pauls, but will keep the familiar aspects. Not to mention looking vicious!!!
59s would be tasty in her! I run a 59b in the neck of my Explorer and a C4 in the bridge. I like the 59b in the neck as it gives alittle more blues "cream" then the normal 59. I changed my C5 to a C4 as that massive chunk of mahogany with the C5 could get alittle boomy down low. The A4 mag maintained the overall tone of the C5 but rolled off alittle of the lows to clean things up alittle.
It seems the Explorer is getting more popular, so get it now so you can look like a leader.. ( Dave Grohl, Ricky Medlocke and more recently the dude from Sum 41 and the dude from the Killers)
Let us know when the purchase gets made and how you like her!!

Sell a few of your axes (noone NEEDS 40 different LPs in every color of the rainbow
). If you really want a great guitar, save up for the Korina Explorer 
(you might as well go all out :headbang: )

My bro has one from the 80s that kicks ass. I think it has a DiMarzio Super Distortion - it sounds and plays fantastic.

I have owned that very guitar. I loved it of course. it had a great tone that was punchy for a neck thru guitar but still had the charictoristics of that fat neck pickup sound for blues. I know the shape is dynamic but mine realy was a great playing and sounding guitar. American Hamer explorer's are good too. Jolly, before you buy that Gibson do yourself a favor and track down an Epiphone '58 Korina Explorer. I think they sell for around $400-450 new and man do those things rock. I have played a few and every time I get my hands on one it is like WOW - I have GOT to get me one of those. You can thank me later, hehe

frankencat's right. i've played the epi explorer (goth) and it plays very well for its price. i am more impressed with epi explorers than the SGs. the neck is simple (no binding etc) and comfortable. comes with grovers too. slap in some duncans (you're probably gonna do it to the gibson if you buy it , right?) and its ready to roll.
if you want a explorer but not necessarily a gibby, give that a test drive.

I don't know about other Epi's but the one I am specifically talking about is the '58 Korina Explorer. Great neck, KILLER sound, and well...Korina!
