Re: Something new!

Now why doesn't my acoustic sound like that????

Re: Something new!

Maybe you should have got a Taylor? :cool2:

I've always liked those. Which is why I got a solid-body electric from them. :)

Got a LOT of compression on that track though. It sounds nice and clear but I'd almost scale it back to get a *little* more dynamic range IMO.

Great composition though. Ever listen to any of Phil Keaggy's acoustic stuff?

I like Phil Keaggy - I've seen him play a Les Paul live. But no, I've never heard anything of his on vinyl or CD.

I like the compression on that particular cut - it's intentional and we were going for a particular sound for just that one cut.

Thanks!

It definitely works for the track and brings out all the notes very nicely. That's the other thing I was gonna mention - really nice performance on that one too. I wrote a similar acoustic piece a few years ago that I can play perfectly sitting around a campfire or in my bedroom, but I've never once been able to get through it with a microphone in the room. I try it every few months and always mess it up at some point in the take, and the nature of it makes it impossible to punch in and combine a few takes.

I need someone to record it without me knowing. :(

Re: Something new!

Hey Lew,

I really enjoyed the track and I'm in awe how good it is. A very sweet song. I heared you playing for the first time, that's a great first impression :)

Keep up the good work!

Re: Something new!

Oh man, makes me want to experiment and see if I can get those kind of beautiful sounds out of my Epiphone acoustic :)

Re: Something new!

That was beautiful Lew, good to see that you figured out soundclick too! I told you it was pretty simple.

Re: Something new!

Lew, my man!

The composition was great --- kept me interested. The feel was really honest.

The playing was super clean as usual --- I really like that about your stuff --- clean clean clean.

The compression was really distracting for me. I am an audio / recording nut, so take it with a grain, but the compression took away from the recording in my opinion.

Keep writing and recording stuff like this!

Re: Something new!

That's good stuff Lew. It conjures up all kinds of images and memories when I listen to it. Only the good stuff can do that. Hope you share some more as you get them finished.

Re: Something new!

Beautiful song, soulful playing, stunning tone, just wonderful. Jessica must be so proud to have that as her song. Nice one Lew.

Re: Something new!

What do you use to pick? Nails or thumb pick/fingers?

That's just a Fender medium on that one. It's in open G and then capoed pretty high up the neck because the high frets are closer together and that lets me reach some of those stretches a little more easily. I'm playing my Taylor 910 cutaway - it's an especially nice sounding dreadnaught.

Thanks! Lew

Re: Something new!
