Speaker Magnets

Re: Speaker Magnets

Im sure the mags change the Eq or response like it does in a pup but how is it with speakers? Does Alnico make a speaker break up later does a Ceramic make it break up sooner?

Re: Speaker Magnets

The magnet is a speaker is purely a mechanical component. The reason you hear differences between different magnet types in speakers is due to power of each type of magnet. I suggest you read up starting with this: http://www.webervst.com/sptalk.html

A pickup has no moving parts. A speaker does. The magnet is one of the key components of that system. You can't just swap them in and out because they're specifically machined and calibrated to the rest of the parts in that speaker.

Re: Speaker Magnets

Is it as easy to swap a magnet out of a speaker as it is a humbucker?

The mag swapping mania is strong with this one.

Its not worth the effort to try to swap just buy the speakers that fit your needs the first time and remember magnets dont have a sound on their own. They are but only 1 component of the system.
