Well, I'm kinda changing everything at once right now. But anyway, I have a Genz-Benz G-Flex 2x12 with my ENGL Screamer 50. I've never tried any other speakers with this cab, or any other quality cabs with the head, so I'm not quite sure how it adds up. The stock speaker is an Eminence made for Genz Benz that I can't find any information on.
What I'm looking for is a little less brightness, softer highs, but still lively and balanced sounding, with lots of definition. Tight bass, not boomy. About mid volume break up. I like the complexity of the Vox sound, but I'm not sure how much of that comes from the Celestion Blue speaker. So I was considering the Weber Blue Dog for that reason. Other speakers I'm considering are the Eminence Legend GB12, Legend V12, Blue Tick Hound, and Private Jack. I'm not sure whether I want an American or British cone, alnico or ceramic.
I play a variety of styles, mainly modern rock like A Perfect Circle, VAST, Porcupine Tree, Dredg, and Pink Floyd. I also like Cream a lot. And some metal like Opeth and In Flames. I play about 50/50 distorted/clean.
Also, I'm not sure if putting new tubes in (they're about 8 months old, moderate use, stock tubes) would make more of a difference?
