i plan on replacing the speakers in my 2x12 cab. i plan on putting a eminence private jack in it. i was planning on pairing it with a wizard but i saw on eminences website that it worked best in a closed back cab. has anyone tried the wizards in open back cabs? or what other models would you recommend me trying? i will be playing everything from blues and country to metal. i know i want a greenback type speaker and then something with more bottom end.

The g12h is a nice speaker with similar tone to the greenback, but more bottom end and less mids.
The G12T75s are not bad in an open back cabinet also. I don't really care for them in a closed back cabinet, but I thought they sounded pretty decent in my 2x12 twin.

i asked the people at eminence. they said that in an open back cab depending on the amp guitar and type of music it may sound fine. but then he said domething aobut cone cry never heard of that before. but he said he wouldnt risk it.

Re: speakers for an open back cab.

Cone cry is when the cone of a 12 starts to make it's own "music"...you'll hit certain notes and the cone will make its own weird extra harmonics.

Not a good thing.

Maybe Eminence feels that the Wizard, like some Celestion Vintage 30's, benefits from the increased speaker damping of a sealed cabinet like a Marshall 4 x 12 cab.

Celestion dopes the daylights out of the edge surround of thier speakers with that thick sticky dope they use...that eliminates cone cry for the most part.

so far i am leaning toward a texas heat/black powder or a texas heat/man o war combo. since i play so many types of music.
