Spin-a-Split wireing in an Explorer

Hey SD forum

I've decided to upgrade my trusty old '82 Gibson Explorer with the SH-JB Hot Rodded set. Initially I was contemplating using a push/pull pot to split the SH in the neck but then I discovered the spin-a-split. Since I almost never use the tone control, it seems like the obvious choice.

The little snag is that I only want to do it to the neck PU and I can't find any diagram for that so I took a look at the 2 vol 2 spin wire diagram, and with the power of MS Paint, adapted it to my guess at how it should be wired:
2vol+neckspin.jpg

Would this be the correct way to wire my Explorer for vol+spin for the neck and only vol for the bridge?

Nice diagram. Don't forget to ground all of the pots together tho.

Thanks for the answers guys, but, now I'm sorta confused. In the original diagram for 2 volume and 2 spin-a-split from the SD library, the vol pots are not grounded to the spin pots. I guess they're actually not grounded at all since they just connect to the toggle ground and nothing else. Is this an error in the SD diagram?

I believe that diagram is wrong. All of your grounds need to go to the ground lug on the output jack, however possible, for them to actually be grounded.
I think we need an expert here. Any takers?

It is NOT an error. It is generally understood that ALL of the components are grounded to each other.

But here is the big issue...

Have you actually played your guitar with that set of pups? And if so, do you really ever think that you would want to hear the tone of the Jazz neck pup in split mode?!

I think you misread my/our post? InbreadJunk and I both agree that it makes sense that everything should be grounded together. However, on the 2 humbucker, 2 volume, 2 spin-a-split diagram that can be found in the SD wire diagram library (http://www.seymourduncan.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/2H_3G_2V_2SSPL.jpg) the vol pots are (as far as I can tell) only "grounded" to each other and the ground pin on the toggle switch. I.e. my suggestion that there is an error in the diagram is exactly that in the SD diagram, some parts appear to not be grounded, and as you say, all components should be grounded.

Nope, when I bought it the previous owner had replaced the EMG 81's the pre-previous owner had installed with some Gibson ones that sound terrible (496R and 500T I think) and now I'm tired of them. I take it from your wording that you think the Jazz would sound terrible, but it's a pretty easy fix to convert it back to a tone control I never use, so why not try it =)

i split a seth neck in an ash tele and the split sound is plenty usable for live work
