SPLAWN AMP has arrived!

Re: SPLAWN AMP has arrived!

Forgot to mention ... the power tubes are the new Mullards, which Scott says are superior to my fave, the 6CA7.

Wow you sold the rivera;)
Well seems to me that you got one great amp.
:D
LOL, I know! It was purely a financial move. I still miss the amp, and I've helped Rivera sell many amps over the years. The timing was just right on this one, tho. Plus, I need to have an amp that will work in Europe.

Re: SPLAWN AMP has arrived!

That is really sweet. I'd love to hear it. My amp has the same type of built-in boost, just another Master Volume knob that's switchable.

Since you need an amp that will work in Europe, why did you get rid of your Marshall? They'll work over there with a flip of the voltage selector switch.

Yes, but zero backline support should something go wrong. Plus, the Marshall was old. Not the most reliable thing to be dragging across the Atlantic.

I see your point there. I wouldn't want to drag an old amp very far either. So aside from this Splawn, what will you have for backup? Another Splawn?

Probably. I'm also insterested in a particular Matamp, the 1224, and I've been thinking about a Hiwatt, too.

I have a feeling another Splawn will be on order soon. :laugh2: I wish I could afford one myself. Does he make combos too?

Nice amp Ben...congrats!

CLIPS!

Re: SPLAWN AMP has arrived!

Well, the amp is now in my house, but still in the bubblewrap unplayed and unopened.

I will be playing it soon. Clips later today!!

Re: SPLAWN AMP has arrived!

Just played the amp for a couple of hours .... it's very versatile as far as the OD channel goes.

The tone is GODLY. It's not quite as high gain as the Roccaforte. It postively SMOKES the Diesel and VHT. Comparing it to the Rivera is like apples and oranges, b/c the Rivera has its own tone going on, but ... I'm gonna go on a huge limb here and say that the Splawn is better.

Pedal wise, the Splawn loves the CPR compressor pedal on the OD channel. Unless I'm going to be doing very specific tone-shaping, it doesn't even need the Big D overdrive pedal! The reason I love using an OD in front of the amp is because of the 3-dimensional sound you get. The Splawn has that right out of the gate. I'm going to continue experimenting with that combination, though. I haven't used my boost pedal with it yet.

I haven't put in enough time yet to make any definitive conclusions, but I can already tell it's a godly amp.
