Hi. I've not been around these forums for ages, they sure look pretty 21st Century these days.
So yeah, I'm having a little trouble with an EMG and was hoping someone could help.
I bought a second hand 81 and put it in the bridge position of my Jackson soloist. The middle and neck positions I've just left empty.
The pickup itself seems like it's in good condition, but it came without the pots or input jack so I just wired it straight to the jack I had already and put a mini-toggle switch inline with the 9v power line to switch it on and off.
When it's plugged in and playing it works and sounds great, but the problem is that under high gain it squeals horribly. It only squeals when I'm not playing through it, but it happens the same at very low volumes and when I'm standing right away from the amp.
It stops if I turn the gain down to about half-way but, well that's not really why I bought an EMG, you know?
The only thing I can think to try is to get some 25k pots and install them.
Could this be the problem do you think?
I never use the controls at all - previously I had the guitar with just an Invader straight to the jack and it was great. - Would it make sense to just get a 25k resistor and put it where the volume pot should be?
