Steinberger GR4 wiring

So I have a Steinberger GR4 that the previous owner "customized" the electronics. It's an HSS setup, with the older SD rails in the middle and neck positions.

Does anyone know if these older rails are humbuckers or single coils? I'd like to set it up with a push/pull to switch from all humbucking to all single coil if possible.

On a side note, does anyone here know how the GR4's were originally wired?

Welcome to the forum!

The older Rails were still humbuckers. They are splittable, and you can wire them in parallel, too. The colors for the wires are the same as present-day Seymour Duncans. You can split 2 pickups with 1 push/pull pot. I think the original GR4s were just wired like normal HSS guitars, but to be sure, you may check on a few of the Seinberger-specific websites and Facebook groups. Cool guitar!.

Thanks for the info and the welcome!

They are 2 rail pickups. I thought they might be 'buckers, but I couldn't find any info on them. I've trawled all of the Steinberger web sites and forums with no luck, then I found the SD Forum. This is an amazing resource that I wish I had found years ago

Re: Steinberger GR4 wiring

They used both Hot Rails and Cool Rails on those GR4s- as you can tell, I like my Steinbergers, too. To know for sure what you have, there should be stickers on the bottom.
