Steinberger synapse transcale: strings and tunings

always SD

New member
hi
i would like to buy a Steinberger synapse transcale

but
1)
i don't like to play with the capo : i am not used to do that
i like classic dots: 3, 5, 7, 9, 12, 15, 17 ...
so, i know we can tune the guitar to E to play in E tuning without the capo

2)
but i want to play with 9_46 or 9-42

so, which strings come with the guitar? must i use only barytone strings?
i don't understand

for example my strat had 10-46 but i play in 9-46 but it was not a baryton guitar

Re: Steinberger synapse transcale: strings and tunings

I think the dots on the side are in a different place than the ones on the face of the fingerboard, which many say is really disorienting. I really don't understand the Transcale, when you can use a ZT3 with a TransTrem, regular strings, and still do the same thing a Transcale does...and much better.

Re: Steinberger synapse transcale: strings and tunings

i think that this guitar is a baryton with a d tuning
we can use 3 transcale Steinberger strings from Baryton to light
http://audiolog.pt/stuff/steinbergers.pdf

i really wonder why he says that we can use all the strings in the market?

so, i can choose the light gauge strings ok

but in Eb, the dots are different and nowhere !! because the dots are with the capo at the 2d fret for the E classic tuning

so, i can tune my guitar in E but i think neck+intonation will be bad
so, intonation i know
but neck i am not a tech to check that and if i must only buy the Transcale Steinberger strings it will be complicated

what i liked is the piezo but i think that if i must buy this guitar it will be a standard synapse

even if my favorite would be with a tremolo like the GL2T but it's a very old and expensive guitar
so?
the ZT3
the zt3 is a bigger guitar and i do not know how to change the pickups and you said they were not very good
not Gibson pickups but Epiphone and so, not EMG's too

that's why i have a Spirit gt pro deluxe hsh :) but i want to try the Synapse for the studio and bus :)

it won't sound like a strat because of no SA-SV single coils EMG pickups but i will have a little good guitar with EMG's:)

IMO, it is folly to pay for the movable capo system if you have no intention of ever using it. That leaves you deciding between Standard Tuning on an extended scale length or the straightforward Baritone and/or drop-tunings approach.

Transcale strikes me as bordering on being a Chapman Stick Alto. Add a string mute and two-handed tapping becomes a practical proposition. Tuned A-A or B-B opens up some musical possibilities and closes out some others. Fripp New Standard Tuning (mostly fifths) is another interesting option.

isn't it beautiful ?:) :cool3:

Re: Steinberger synapse transcale: strings and tunings

Is that an assertion or a question? The Transcale looks pretty self-explanatory to me.

If you bother to compare the links in posts #2 and 4, you should realise that the 12-68 gauge strings supplied as standard are intended for a dropped tuning. Other, lighter, pre-packed sets are offered. With these fitted, you could have the open position as EADGBE but the scale length will be longer than is customary. This could make for interesting guitar playing or it could simply prove annoying.

Are you really THAT dependent on position marker inlays? How would you survive on a fretless bass guitar or an orchestral contrabass?

Re: Steinberger synapse transcale: strings and tunings

If you don't like using the capo perhaps an SS-2F would be a good option. I have one and it travels really well. I've had it overseas in the desert and all over the place. You can using any strings on it too. It'll be cheaper than a trans scale as well which may be a bonus.

Re: Steinberger synapse transcale: strings and tunings

i know this guitar has a good sound
but my dream was piezo +vibrato +EMG pickups or vibrato +EMG's

the spirit model won't have an as good sound as the Synapse so...
i want the yellow model :) even it has not any coil split :(

Actually that is a SS-2F which is a Synapse but not a Transcale.
A Transcale with 8's and regular E tuning is fun to play.
Get more room in her upper frets.

Welcome to the Forum!

My Synampse is not a Transcale, either, and I don't think I would like a Transcale at all. However, I did switch out the EMGs for SDs. :)

Re: Steinberger synapse transcale: strings and tunings

i know someone who had a lot of problems
difficulties to find the special strings for a transcale
so
not good at all

the hohner g3t sounds very good with real EMG pickups but i don't like bending with this guitar
it's not soft even if i play with 9-42

the Steinberger gt pro deluxe is very easy to play
great bends
good vibrato (not a floyd rose)
SD pickups in my guitar but i have cold sound, not bad with sh1 vintage rails sh4 but a little bit cold
versatile too

so, this synapse is a good option for bus, subways
the 3d option
