Steve Harris SPB-4 Giveaway

Re: Steve Harris SPB-4 Giveaway

This is hard to answer as I had an older brother that was nine years older. Probably my first experiences with "metal" (if these count) would be him listening to Montrose, Uriah Heep. I had Smoke on the water on 45 rpm when it came out. Round about 1976 I became a HUGE KISS fan ! From that point on, Ive gotten into heavier stuff.

Great contest! I could SURE use these! Thanks!!

Re: Steve Harris SPB-4 Giveaway

First serious listen? Queensryche - Operation: Mindcrime

They opened up for Def Leppard, and blew them out of the water...

Re: Steve Harris SPB-4 Giveaway

I think I'm going to change my answer. I just heard the song that grabbed my attention for the first time way back when, and got me excited about playing metal.

Cool Hand Killer by Lucifer's Friend.

Note: I listened to other bands years earlier, like Kiss, Black Sabbath, Led Zep, Deep Purple, etc., but due to the fogginess of whether that stuff was metal, pre-metal, or proto-metal, I'm going to stick with Cool Hand Killer. It was the first song I ever learned that I associated with the term "metal" from the very beginning.

Re: Steve Harris SPB-4 Giveaway

I installed this pickup in a Fender Mike Dirnt Signature bass. Wow did it upgrade the sound! Still a classic P Bass sound but it cuts through a live mix better than any other basses I use. It's become my number one bass for gigging, especially loud shows.
If you have to play in venues with lousy acoustics, this pickup will help.

Great Review!! Ive been wondering how this pup is. Ive changed lots of guitar pups, but new to bass and the Charvel bass I have has Dimarzios in it, but I wondered if this pup would be better

You all are making me feel soooo old. So many mentions of Metallica and "more current" bands being your initiation into metal.

My uncle started playing Destroy Everything by Hatebreed while we were driving in his car, and that was the first metal song I remember hearing. There were probably more but that was the first one I conciously remember.

Re: Steve Harris SPB-4 Giveaway

Back in the days when radio actually played teh good stuff, I'd have to say it was Paranoid by Black Sabbath (mid-70s). I used to go to sleep with my radio on really low and just as I was drifting off, they'd play Electric Funeral, and I'd force myself to stay awake to hear it, but usually ended up passing out before the end.

"Ree-flects in the sky-y
Warn you you're gonna die
Storm coming you better hide
From the zzzzzzz..."

But no lie, Iron Maiden was the first band I ever had the entire catalog of - First album up through Powerslave (when it came out), including Maiden Japan.

Alot of Maiden listed here. First Maiden song I heard was Trooper. Then I ran out and bought Number of The beast and Piece of mind. Later bought Live Killers after seeing Maiden live with one YJM opening for them!

Mr. Olson.

Is this giveaway open to absolutely all comers or is there a minimum membership period - like there is for ordering forum bro designed pickups?

Funk, I remember him saying that these are open on a previous contest. The Info is on the web along with the top topics on the forum to generate interest in bringing peeps over to the duncan site. Prolly not just for us regulars

Scott,

Correct me if Im wrong and scuse me if I spoke out of turn

Re: Steve Harris SPB-4 Giveaway

You cannot seriously expect a man of my advanced age to read the preamble and blog. Bah, humbug!

Re: Steve Harris SPB-4 Giveaway

Forgot I also had Live After Death - the album done during the World Slavery tour (Powerslave).

I saw them at the UNO Lakefront Arena in New Orleans. During the encore, Adrian Smith walks off stage and comes stumbling back covered in whipped cream, and more flying at him. Bruce announced it was Adrian's birthday, and the crew was pelting him with it

Me and a bunch of the people around me started singing Happy Birthday, but they walked off and the lights came up before the second verse.
We were all like "WTF?!"

Best show I'd ever been to, though. Giant Mummy Pharoah Eddie head and arms coming out over Nicko.

Ozzy- The Ozzman Cometh. I still have that copied tape around somewhere. Wish I knew where actually; running with just a tape deck in the car these days.

Re: Steve Harris SPB-4 Giveaway

My first heavy metal album was black sabbath's greatest hits tape I bought at a car wash.

Re: Steve Harris SPB-4 Giveaway

The first album that I can recall would be Maiden's Live After Death although the first song I can remember listening to that was metal-tinged was Queen's Stone Cold Crazy...

Re: Steve Harris SPB-4 Giveaway

"One" by Metallica was the first heavy metal song I remember hearing, turned me from listening to pop on the radio to start listening to alot of other metal bands on tapes.

Re: Steve Harris SPB-4 Giveaway

Quiet Riot's Metal health was probably my first "Metal" album, Metallica's And Justice for all is probably the first one i bought for myself, but Maiden's Somewhere in time changed my whole world.

Re: Steve Harris SPB-4 Giveaway

Master of Puppets. I still remember how bad Battery psyched me out. I thought I got the wrong album or something and I turned the volume up to hear if I was missing something with the acoustic intro. Then it hit me.
