Strat necks and scale length

Hi all,

Could you theoretically get a custom neck made for a strat that would turn the Fender scale strat into a gibson scale? Would it work, or would there be intonation problems/other issues that i havent thought about?

Has i already been done? be VERY curious as to how it sounds with two humbuckers.....(sure you know what i mean)

Just curious...cheers

Re: Strat necks and scale length

Warmoth and USA Custom Guitars both make 24 3/4" conversion strat necks :). However, changing the scale length won't magically make your strat sound like a Les Paul. The two are totally different beasts from the ground up.

Re: Strat necks and scale length

Yep. I'm building a 24.75" scale Tele.

Aluminum Body
Maple/ebony neck (USACG)
SD Custom P-90.

I'm thinking of maybe putting a varitone in there too. :6:

Re: Strat necks and scale length

Cool, thanks for the info.....
Hey capo, will a baritone neck work too? (on a strat)

On the note of necks, how easy is it to swap around a strat neck? any hints/tips for getting a snug fit and ensuring maximum sustain/contact?

Also about necks, is it normal for a strat styled neck to bend a little (ie. i can probably bend a note up or down one whole pitch)?

Re: Strat necks and scale length

In the late 80's i played a few different Kramer's and Jacksons that were strats with 24 3/4 scale boards... they feel so weird... Sounded great but a little unlike a strat for sure.... I'm sure they would grow on me if i had owned them, but i liked the 25 1/2 feel better...

Re: Strat necks and scale length

My Jackson Fusion Pro has a 24.75" scale neck. As whofan said, they feel a little weird at first, but really are comfortable and fast - not a Strat and not a Les Paul but somewhere in between if that makes sense:alcoholic

Re: Strat necks and scale length

my short scale dbl hum strat is a bad mamma-pajamma!
