Tele...strats sound thin and weak, Teles are full, punchy, snappy and can be fat with the right pickups and amp settings.

Re: Stratocaster Tone vs Telecaster Tone

I like both, but I have a slight preference for Tele's over Strat's. I voted Tele!

Re: Stratocaster Tone vs Telecaster Tone

I own a strat, and I love the tone. It is distinct and clear.

That said, I tried out a highway one telecaster at sam ash the other day and I got brighter and snappier tone than my strat with full tone, and fatter, gibson like tones when I rolled off the tone. It left a good impression.

I think overall, the strat has more versatility though; especially when aftermarket pickups are taken into account.

Re: Stratocaster Tone vs Telecaster Tone

both guitars tend to sound "thin".

clean, both are good.

however, overdrive and distortion, they sound different there.

Im not entirely sure, because theres so many different styles in the two models, but assuming its just standards, id say the strat will be slightly better in this department.

however, telecasters are just ****ing cool.

if you can get one and drop a hotrails in it, its the ****.

it has way more mojo than my strat with an invader.

i prefer the tele simply because the body feels like it has more meat to it.

Re: Stratocaster Tone vs Telecaster Tone

I disagree with most of wwhat Astro just said (for obvious reasons), however, I also vote tele (for even more obvious reasons).

Re: Stratocaster Tone vs Telecaster Tone

Teles FTW

Especially my G&L ASAT Special...it can get the same buttery tone on the neck as my LP, but goes to glass land on the bridge like no other guitar I've ever had.

Though I like both and started on a Strat, I voted Tele. I choose so both for tones, simplicity, versatility and playability all considered. In the end I play my Tele far more often then I play my Strat, though it does get picked up regularly.

Re: Stratocaster Tone vs Telecaster Tone

I loved my strat tone so much I put in 2 humbuckers that are not like strat single coils at all.

Tele man! Rock ooon!

Re: Stratocaster Tone vs Telecaster Tone

A Strat with a bucker at the bridge and wiring that allows for a N+B setting (ala Tele).

Where does that count for?

Yeah, that's why lame guitar players like Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Johnson, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Robert Cray, Robin Trower, Mark Knopfler, Rory Gallagher, Yngwie Malmsteen, Ritchie Blackmore, etc., etc., etc. sound SO thin and weak. They all used Strats. Imagine that!

I'm gonna vote Strat.

Re: Stratocaster Tone vs Telecaster Tone

I can't choose, i love 'em both (ok, i have 3 Strats and only one Tele), but these two are old friends and life wouldn't be complete without either one of them. They're like twins, they complete each other.

I like the lead pickup of a Tele better than the lead pickup of a Strat.

So I use a Tele lead pickup in my favorite Strat.

I like the neck pickup of a Strat better than the neck pickup of a Tele.

But I like the combined tone of a Tele neck and bridge pickup better than the combined tone of a Strat neck and Strat bridge pickup.

strats just don't do it for me, they sound weak and shrill to me, even the "fat" strat tones sound too weak to me.
