Re: Stratocaster Tone vs Telecaster Tone

What's Strat or Tele tone? Hendrix and Gilmour for example sound almost nothing alike, might as well compare Hendrix's Strat tone with Page's Les Paul tone...

Re: Stratocaster Tone vs Telecaster Tone

i agree with alot of what lew said. i love a tele bridge pup and hate the neck pup. dont love a normal strat bridge pup but the neck and middle pups are nice. i prefer a single cutaway and strings thru the body but would rather have a hardtail strat bridge than a tele bridge.

i could get thru a gig with either

Re: Stratocaster Tone vs Telecaster Tone

Wow. Kinda surprised that Teles are so far ahead here. If the question was "which would you rather own" I'd bet Strats would take it by a mile.

As narrow minded and stereotypical as it may sound, there's a certain twang in a Tele that no matter how grungy or distorted you make it, it still reminds me of country. To my ears a Strat tone is more transparent and clean which is a perfect starting point for building any kind of guitar tone.

Re: Stratocaster Tone vs Telecaster Tone

i love the strat neck pickup, neck/middle tones, but i've put a humbucker in the bridge of every strat i've owned. i voted tele as i like the single coil in the bridge more then the single in a strat

Re: Stratocaster Tone vs Telecaster Tone

Strats...Teles sound thin and weak, Strats are full, punchy, snappy and can be fat with the right pickups and amp settings.

:)

Re: Stratocaster Tone vs Telecaster Tone

They just don't sound that different to me. I can work with either. I just use pups that are consistent with the tones I am shooting for and except for my Eric Johnson Strat... I have humbuckers on everything..... No reason to deal with all that noise BS...

Re: Stratocaster Tone vs Telecaster Tone

Tele for "development", Strat for playing finished songs?

I like picking up Teles when I sit around in the basement but going to battle I feel more comfortable with a Strat.

Does that make any sense?

Makes sense to me. It's almost like the Strat is a more genteel Tele.

Re: Stratocaster Tone vs Telecaster Tone

Strats, for ergonomics. They don't dig in my ribs, have a forearm contour, virbato system, the volume knob is in the right place, and the 5 way switch is angled the right way.

Re: Stratocaster Tone vs Telecaster Tone

I like them both so I have a Strat body on my Tele neck with a Tele neck on my Strat body and ??? electronics.

IMO, any guitar with the right pickups and right amp will sound full, punchy, snappy, and fat.
Hell, IMO, the amp is like 50-70% and the pups like 15% with everything else (strings, wood, pick) being the rest.

they are the best features of a strat that the tele dont have! but the tele doesn't have the good neck and middle sounds of the strat and the strat doesn't have the bridge twang of the tele! two totally different guitars both with pros and cons!

Re: Stratocaster Tone vs Telecaster Tone

Strats all the way... I love a good Strat tone, be it clean or dirty... Give me a great player and a good Strat and I could listen all day (ie. SRV, Hendrix, Beck, Clapton, Cray, Knopfler, Mayer... need I say more...)

Both are great in the right hands... but my hands aren't great so I opted for a super Tele, H/S/S, body contour and tummy cut and a Floyd. Not traditional I know, but it works for me. What I should have done was had the body of my Ash ASAT classic contoured because the MFD pick ups sounded excellent to me.
