Re: Stratocasters just don't do metal!
I think that Kissinger dude from Sepultura plays teles and strats.

Seriously, you guys who think a Strat with vintage output singles won't do metal, plug one into a high gain amp like a Soldano SLO100, Dual Recto, Bogner Uberschall or the like, tweak the knobs a bit, and listen.
I've got most of my greatest metal tones with a strat with a low output true single coil. Generally considered I'd think that it's silly to say a guitar can't do metal - it's more that an amp can't do metal. And most of those amps that aren't generally considered as metal amps can do it very very well with a suitable dirt pedal in front.
Even John 5's Teles have either Hot Rails or a really hot full-size humbucker. And yeah, Root's guitars are mahogany and loaded with EMG 81/60.

I am now going to record some metal riffs through a typical vintage setup.
Deal, that's what I was doing. Here are the rules... no pedals allowed, you have to rely on the gain on tap in the vintage amp itself:laugh2:

I don't remember insisting anything. I once made a thread in tips and clips with a Twin doing exactly that... Metal in the most strict definition of metal.arent you the same guy who insists a Twin Reverb can also do metal?
Quote me on this forevermore.
1) a stock strat cannot do metal in the smost strict definiton of metal
2) a 335 cannot do metal ( or at the very least SHOULD not do metal)
A Fender Amp CANNOT do metal ( pedals or no).
if you point to one artist who pulled it off, I would say that 50 more pulled it off more successefully with the right tools.
Thank you.
Precisely!if a good metal player picks up a strat and plays metal on it through a metal-capable amp, you will hear metal.
it's playing technique and the amp, unfortunately most young metal fans underestimate the importance of both, in my experience of playing in bands...
