Strats hate me..

Re: Strats hate me..

Les pauls, far too bulky for mee & I cant move around in the right way & get into the groove.

Sadly though, when I watch videos of people like slash I do get tempted at times.

Re: Strats hate me..

The Les Paul I guess. Mostly because I can't stop hearing Slash whenever I select the neck pickup and I can't stand his tone. So it's unfortunately become quite annoying. I also don't like TOMs as much as other bridges. But a LP wiht the bridge bucker and a neck P90 WOULD be good for me. And not that BFG thing...

Re: Strats hate me..

it makes me sad that to the younger generation a Les Paul is associated with *Slash* :2:

Theres far more to Les Pauls than Slash, just like there is far more to Strats than John Mayer :17:

FWIW, its to the point where I cant really play a Les Paul anymore either..love the tone, but just don't feel right anymore to me..bulky I guess..and the slow pick attack drives me nuts.

Good discussion though..anyone else?

Re: Strats hate me..

The Les Paul. I've always wanted a Les Paul, most of my favorite players play LPs, I love the way it sounds on their records. So now I got one, and it's a good one. And it turns out to be too heavy for me, the cleans are too muddy, and the distorted sound too middy for my taste.

I must have been spoiled forever by my Parker Fly. I still won't sell my Les Paul (little time has passed since I bought it, and I know that you have to live with a new guitar for several months to judge it). But I'm almost sure that I will only buy Parker Flys from now. Yes they are that great. The stock pickups need to be changed though, but this is the case with most guitars.

And concerning my Les Paul - I don't regret buying it, everyone has to have one :) At least my Les Paul GAS is over, and I've been suffering severe attacks of it during several years! The only cure has been to buy one! So now I'm cured, and it has been worth it!

No, to me, a LP is assiciated with LES PAUL :p Doh. And with Eric Clapton, the Beano day.

But to me, Slash ruined the LP neck sound. It's hard to make one not have any hints of him. I really don't like him so meh.
To me the LP is the bridge pickup basically. Unless I play a Strat, I barely ever use neck pickups nowadays anyway.

I've never heard of John Mayer though...

Re: Strats hate me..

I do not like LP's much....they are lazy guitars to me....
Do not even get me started on PRS.....
I like the sound of some LP players, I like a Jr though...what gives?? :D

Re: Strats hate me..

For me it's the Les Paul. I love them for what they are, owned a few myself, but I always end up letting it go. In my case it's the shorter scale more than anything. I love their tone, and I love goldtops. Just can't play them very long. I dig SG's too but the neck heaviness bugs me.

So, to take care of that problem.......dual bucker Strats. :)

Re: Strats hate me..

There's so many funny things about that video. For one, Klaus looks like Dio. :laugh2:

All guitars do not work for me. :p That is probably because I do not work for them! I need to play more.

Re: Strats hate me..

Took me a while to get used to my Les Paul, since I grew up playing strats. I love it now.

One guitar that I never have felt comfortable with, although I would really like to, is a Gibson SG. I think its just the fact that the pickups are offset from the waist cut. It always feels really unbalanced and unnatural every time I try to play one. I probably just need to buy one and see. Right now I have an all mahogany PRS SE standard with Duncan 59's in it that I think of as my SG tone. Its pretty close.

I picked up a guitar at guitar center a few weeks ago that REALLY surprised me. A Fender Jaguar. They have a funky offset waist also, so I had never picked one up. Man, that thing was one of the most comfortable guitars I have ever played, and it sounded great. Even with those cheap fender humbuckers in it. One of those may follow me home soon.

Re: Strats hate me..

As much as I dig Jazzmasters for whatever reason I have never been able to play one and really get a tone that I liked, the tremolo on them is a flat out joke and they have NO sustain but I do GAS for them from time to time...

I must say Im surprised to see all the negative LP thoughts...FWIW, I never think about Slash when I play my LP or other 2 bucker guitars...I always here me! It took me a VERY long time to be able to get along with Strats and I can still only play one from time to time...

SG's are another funny guitar for me...if I can get one a great sounding SG I sometimes prefer it to a Les Paul but to me it's tought to find an SG that has a tone I really like...most of them are just too thin to me.

Re: Strats hate me..

Vs, Explorers and Firebirds don't balance well for me. I play Sgs, Stats, Telecasters and I can play a LP this bites because so many blues and metal artists like these weird shaped guitars. I own a Steinberger which plays well but is too light in the neck. So I feel your pain brothers.

Re: Strats hate me..

Yes, there are a lot of LP negative posts. I feel this is because usually LPs give people the most GAS. And then it results in a major disappointment when you realize that this wonderful guitar is not for you.

Re: Strats hate me..

LP for me...I love em, and up until quite recently they were all I'd play, but a combination of changing musical tastes and getting my first Tele has left my LP mostly unplayed on the wall.

After playing a Tele I just don't want to use any other guitar for rhythm work, and I am not fast enough to switch to the LP for solos and then put it down again and grab the Tele, so it's getting no play time.

I'm not selling her though, no way.

Re: Strats hate me..

I must be honost and admit that I only like strats really. So for me it's just about any non-strat.

I would love to have a Flying V, but I'd probably never play it.

Lately I have had this crazy idea to build a Les Paul shaped bass. I'm not a regular bass player, so it wouldn't matter, but I think it would be real cool to have on hand as a occasional bass guitar. It would be tabaco burst.

Re: Strats hate me..

I have Strats, "super strats", and a Les Paul. I would love to have a V, but not a practical guitar for me.

Re: Strats hate me..

Most acoustics make me want to cry. I like them, sometimes. I like the feel of the neck a lot, too. But there is just no way to dial in the perfect sound on an acoustic! That's why I convert all mine to electric. They make amazing electric instruments. I kinda wanna do it to a Stratacoustic... That may be a little ironic even for me, though.
