Strats hate me..

Re: Strats hate me..

Les pauls, I can never get a good lead and rythym sound at the same time. It's either muddy or when you get the rythym cleared up the leads lose all their ability to sing.

I don't care for the 24.75 scale with that wide of a fretboard either, throws me for a loop.

With a strat's neck pickup you can get fatter and more cutting leads than a les paul could ever dream of.

SG's, I really like the fact that it's got the strats light weight and the les paul's range but they are just way to freakn' small. Especially in the hands of a big dude, it looks like a freakn' toy.

Re: Strats hate me..

Love the look of Firebirds but hate the balance on everyone I have ever straped on.

Use to hate Strats too untill I got the Hamer Strat clone, the Daytona.

Re: Strats hate me..

honestly i like most traditional guitars..
sure it takes time to adjust but its not a total dread..

sure when i used to only play my strat i used to trick my self into thinking that the les paul wasn't for me, because i knew at that time, i could never afford one..

i kept thinking to myself that the beefy tone was muddy, when that tone was what i was craving from my strat which the guitar could never achieve..
i kept falsely justifying that i was a strat guy until i got my first les paul..

i also own a jackson superstrat type guitar with a big fret board radius..and i can get used to that pretty quick..

strat, les paul..they all have their places and uses..its important to get used to different types of guitars because they offer so much variety..

personally, i dont find the transition from strat to paul that difficult..
i think its usually neck angle which makes transition difficult, rather than scale length or pickups..

i used to play classical guitar in the traditional position which people find awkward..so getting used to other types of electric guitars hasn't been a problem so far..problems playing an explorer or v sitting down? get up or play it sitting down the classical way!

strat, paul, sg, v, explorer..they're all just guitars..
the guitar's gonna force you to adjust..
you can't mold guitars like clay into a shape which feels comfortable to you..to a certain extent..

Re: Strats hate me..

For me it's the strat and the flying v. I love Les Pauls actually and I played an LP exclusively for 3 yrs and by exclusive, I mean I literally played only that guitar and no other, so now LPs feel right to me. The strat just isn't my thing, although I have a stratish guitar, my carvin which is neck thru. The V on the other hand, I like the way it plays, but can't hold it comfortably sitting and standing it's still kinda akward.

For me, the Les Paul is associated with Jimmy Page, he was my first guitar hero and the first I saw playing one.

Re: Strats hate me..

I want to like Firebirds, but they never balance right to me; they're just overly awkward guitars in general for me. I like Explorers, but I hate how long the lower bout is (it like wraps around you which feels weird and I keep bumping into that horn)... I did fall in love with the tone though (the beefiness of a les paul with the quick response of a strat... that's one heck of a mix). Strats are fun as hell to play (it tends to bring out the funk and blues player in me), but sometimes I need some more beef and that's why I have 2 P90 guitars and a humbucker equipped guitar also in my arsenal.

All in all, I like and will play just about anything honestly.

Re: Strats hate me..

Strats. Bore the stuffing out of me.

I love Les Pauls and Gretsches. And then Teles. But the right Tele (like mine) might be the best guitar in the world, even more than a Gretsch or Les Paul.

Who knows! Just not Strats.

Re: Strats hate me..

I used to hate Strats until I got one without single coils. :D I always loved the playability and design of the Strat but could never get myself to sound decent with singles. A dual hum MIA Strat solved all my problems!

Re: Strats hate me..

Strats hate me but I hate 'em right back. ;) About 15 years ago I bought one because I loved Gilmour, Hendrix and other classic Strat players. I never really liked the way I sounded playing a strat. As time goes on, I find myself being increasingly irritated by that scooped tone that others call bell-like. Different strokes for different folks.

Never was a Les Paul kind of guy though I've recently become enamored with PRS Singlecuts. Don't worry Rid, I like PRS enough for both of us. :p

I can get along with most any humbucker guitar, though. More recently I've also developed an affinity for Teles.

Re: Strats hate me..

Les Pauls.. give me so much GAS, every time I see a player with one/ hear a great tone from them I want one, badly, but they just dont feel... right in my hands...

Two other guitars that I can't seem to get along with at all are Parkers and Musicman axes.. no doubt they are amazing guitars but.. my hands are just way too big for them to feel comfortable.

Re: Strats hate me..

I'm attracted to a lot of guitars that don't work too well because of size and shape, but fortunately I can't afford them, so I stick with my strat.

Re: Strats hate me..

I can get along with most any humbucker guitar, though.

That's so funny, I'm the exact opposite. I love the sound of single coils; most humbuckers just don't cut it for me. That said, I do have a Strat with H-H configuration that I use for heavy stuff, but I think singles when I want to reproduce the sound in my head 99% of the time.

Re: Strats hate me..

I'm turning into less and less of a bucker fan too. I mean I love a good bridge bucker in an LP, but the only bucker neck I've ever liked is the Jazz. Everything else has seemed muddy. I love single coil necks though, if not bridges so much.

Re: Strats hate me..

Well both, I can the sounds I want from both...so it is just a matter of meaning it:)
Then I am good to go.
Both weak singles and hot humbuckers, no matter as long as they have some useable tone!
