Suggest a good solid state clean amp with no dist/od/fx

Looking to move to a louder amp. I use an HSS strat so I get clean tones from single coils and hard rock / metal tones from my bridge humbucker. I am using fulltone plimsoul for OD/Dist, boss metal core for... metal. My current amp is a roland cube 40xl, I love its clean channel but the amp models are no match for pedals and I won't for for a cube 80 to get unused features. The closest I have found to what I think I need is Roland JC 120 but is VERY expensive and has od/fx I won't use, any suggestion? It is not gonna happen untill next year but want to get started into researching what the options are.

Carvin SX200. They've got a robust EQ, something like 100 watts. You can probably find one used on craigslist for very cheap; I've seen them under $100. Peavey Choruses are floating around for under $200 and you can't really beat the loudness those behemoths put out. There's the ever-present Crate 2x12s and if you go vintage you have a plethora of old oddball amps like Kustoms, Sunn Betas, Earth, Acoustic....lots and lots of solid state amps putting out big wattage and not collectible due to being solid state.

Or keep your eyes peeled for a Roland. Or a Quilter, if you want to be Mr. Superawesome.

Re: Suggest a good solid state clean amp with no dist/od/fx

If you can find a Sunn Beta Lead then hold on to your drawers... they are LOUD. They are also indestructable, so far as I could tell.

Re: Suggest a good solid state clean amp with no dist/od/fx

Peavey Bandit has a good clean *and* a good distortion, *and* it has an FX loop, so you'll get plenty of versatility.

If you want to up your game a little bit, the Bandit comes in a head format called the Transtube Supreme. Pair that with a 2x12 or 4x12 and you're good to go. :D

Fender frontman 212. I have the 65 and its freaking loud and takes pedals like a champ. Dirty channel gets a good classic rock sound and the clean is typical fender beauty

Re: Suggest a good solid state clean amp with no dist/od/fx

Oh yea, Fender put out a line of ss metal amps you can probably find cheap too.

Fender Ultimate Chorus. It has chorus but you don't have to use it.

Or . . . if you want the Rolls Royce of S/S amps, get a Polytone Mini Brute.

If you are on a budget (seeing that the JC120 is too much) have a look at this S/S 120W 2X12 combo - $300.00

If you want to use the amp just for it's clean tones . . . this will be a great buy on a budget !!!

Re: Suggest a good solid state clean amp with no dist/od/fx

. . .then there is this : 500watts of S/S amp.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fender-MH-5...833?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_2&hash=item35ce5133b1 - $455.00 USD

And yes, the cleans are GOOD on this one !

THAT'S the one I was talking about. Metalhead.

You know, if you're going to stay ss, why don't you get a cheap POD-like device or an analog speaker sim (like from AMT) and run it into a P.A. system? P.A.s are very, very useful, and the bassist and singer can run out of it too.

Fender Ultimate Chorus. It has chorus but you don't have to use it.

Yep. If you want a JC-120, get a Fender Ultimate Chorus. It's a ridiculous solid state amp. Juicy and full. It's a perception changer.

Re: Suggest a good solid state clean amp with no dist/od/fx

Just get a smaller jazz chorus. I picked up a JC-50 for $250 awhile back (maybe a bit less, I forget). Sick amp. Would be a shame not to use its onboard effects though.

I am not sure if those frontman have been discontinued but I was also concerned about some defects expressed a forum.

That and the old fizz thing in some previous mustangs made me think twice before getting a SS modeler from Fender. Those may be discontinued because (1) Can't easyly find them on line anymore and (2) It looks like the new champion series arrived to remove those, even wtih lowe price and more features -that I am not use-.

I was just reading about the idea of using external "power amp" devices and then simly plug those into cabinets of my choise. I found this idea from both the ISP Technologies Stelath Power amp and the EHX Mustang 44. Anyone out theere using only poweramps like these driving the cabinets?

Why CAN'T it have distortion/OD channel????

Not like you HAVE to use it....

Criteria seriously narrows your choices

yea, you should just look into a pedals>cab sim/DI box>PA amp. SS amps are going to come with googaws because they aren't aimed at pro players, they're usually aimed at parents buying a cheap amp for their kid and they like to see a huge laundry list of stuff it can do. Jazz players buy veeeery expensive clean SS amps that outprice a JC120 by a lot.
Behringer makes a Sansamp knockoff for about $30. It's the Gdi...something. put your pedals in the front and the power amp in the back and tear it up.

Re: Suggest a good solid state clean amp with no dist/od/fx

Solid State . . . with zero extra BS, or unwanted features.

You are 100% about it narrow downs my choices, but I don't know what those are and that is why I asked the question. If at some point I will get one with od/dis/fx then so be it but in the meanwhile I am learning more about what I really need vs what vendors offer.

+1 the Fender M80 line amps sound great and for some reason they can be found on the cheap. Crystal clear cleans, tank reverb and amazing gain. I got an M80 Pro for $130 300 watts of pure power.
