I have a Roland Cube 30 practice amp that my 11 year old son has decided he likes. I am looking got get a second amp so I can play when I want, and we can play together (at least until my wife yell at us to stop the noise).

So, what do people like for a Tube practice amp? I would like to be able too plays blues/classic rock (Zeppelin, old Stones) to more modern rock (Green Day, Jane’s Addiction) with a little classic metal thrown in (Judas Priest).

Peavey Classic 30 with a pedal in front to cover the metal side of things. Cheap, good at bedroom volumes, screams at gigging levels.

I have a mesa/boogie studio caliber that fits that bill :) it's a killer amp! I got a steal on it too. may be a bit more on average than you want to spend though

Laney LC-15, can cover all styles, is all tube, and you can get them for under 300 on ebay.

I like my Traynor YCV 50 Blue. Great gain for any music, awesome clean channel.

Now you may be thinking.. 50 watts??!?!!?!?!?!?

But yeah.. the Master volume on it works very very well, and it doesnt get as buzzy or thin as other amps when turned down. When jamming with people with like.. 30 watt solid states, I turn the master to 3 and its good to go.

If it doesn't HAVE to be tube, don't overlook the Tech 21 Trademark 60. It's a really great versatile little amp. Excellent tones and features. Check out their soundclips. I recommend it!
