Suhr Aldrich , DD.... Tighter?

So I'm looking for a new pup with a REALLY tight bottom end, I'm talking EMG81 league of tightness in the low end, something tighter than my B&B L500XL.

I'm thinking about Doug Aldrich bridge pup, I read some good things about it, so I'd like to know just how tight the low end is in it?... tighter than Duncan Distortion, the same?... looser?.

May, the Suhr Aldrich is TIGHT..all around..very focused as well. when you strum a chord, you can really hear each string/note articulated very well. To me, depending how/what you play, it can be too tight/unforgiving..but it does have a nice BIG cutting tone and isn't harsh...nice pup. Reminds me sorta of the Custom/JB hybrid but tighter and more defined/less forgiving. IHMO..YMMV

Re: Suhr Aldrich , DD.... Tighter?

If you can find one try a Motor City Solution.....Nice tight and percussive....

Re: Suhr Aldrich , DD.... Tighter?

The Aldrich is about as tight as any hot pickup I have ever heard. Huge sounding pickup with a defined but not harsh high end. To be honest I find it too tight for what I like to hear, I'm more of an Alnico II kind of guy.

I have an Aldrich I want to get rid of

:scratchch too bad you live in the other side of the world . Anyways I do have a an EMG 81x (which I like) but I definetly don't want another one, just want a passive pup that has that tight bottom end but feels more "alive" with my old amp the BL L500XL was the thing, with my mesa it's just not tight enough

Re: Suhr Aldrich , DD.... Tighter?

So I got the Aldrich pup, it's a tiny bit tighter than L500XL, but definetly not in the same ballpark as the emg 81, it's great for vh and any other hard rock band you can think of, just not tight enough to play metal without having and OD pedal in front of the amp to cut some bass

hmm

I can run my guitar with the Aldrich with my ENGL or my Diezel and it is about as metal as I can imagine.

Re: Suhr Aldrich , DD.... Tighter?

Are EMGs and L500XL tighter than DD?

81 is definetly tighter than B&B L500XL, I've done the A/B and huge difference, I remember DD being very tight but I have not played one in a while so I'm not sure about that part of the q

never played a diezel, but with the engl i played once you could pretty much use a PAF and still would be balls out metal, my mesa loves EMGs it needs that super tight low end to go metal, I'm thinking of chageing the v1 from the stock mesa to a Tungsol to tighten things up.

depends on the Mesa. Also how you run a mesa can have a HUGE effect on how tight they are. Most guys i know run the bass too high on them and it causes the bottom end to loosen up. Try pulling out some bass or adding more treble. Other things that can effect it depending on the model are where you've set the power switches. Are you using spongy or bold, tweed or full power.

Re: Suhr Aldrich , DD.... Tighter?

It's a DC-5 not a recto and I went as far as bass on 1, treble and prescense are always on 10, with the emgs i set the bass around 5.

Thing is with the EMGs is killer, the best metal tone I've had... but up until now with everything else is OD pedal to cut the bass or no metal at all

I'm hoping a tung sol in v1 will save me, cause EMG are always horrible in any clean channel

BTW the aldrich pup is great for soloing, medium gain and cleans, if I could get metal without the OD outta it, I'd be in love

Bummer a DC5 is boring in terms of power options. The tung sol might fix it but i wouldnt hold my breath. Its easy enough to try though.

Re: Suhr Aldrich , DD.... Tighter?

My Lace Deathbucker is insanely tight in my Dinky (Alder) ...(ie EMG 81 tight), but sounded pretty bassy/unfocussed in Basswood...if you have a guitar with pronounced mids it's an amazing sounding pickup..razor sharp but fuller and richer sounding than an 81..

Also, If you take the time to set up an AHB-2 Blackout Metal properly, it's another tight and totally awesome sounding pickup, but very height sensitive..

Re: Suhr Aldrich , DD.... Tighter?

For my money the best passive pup that compares to an 81 is the DD. Thats just me though. I also really like the 500T lately.

Re: Suhr Aldrich , DD.... Tighter?

the distortion definatly sounds more metal than the Aldrich. Its pure violence in a pickup

Re: Suhr Aldrich , DD.... Tighter?

I have two - one in a HH strat one in an ibanez RG570 - and I agree.
Compared to an EMG 81 or blackout bridge, it's not quite as tight, but defo the tightest I've heard from a passive maybe until you start getting into BKP aftermath or Lundgren m6 territory.

Re: Suhr Aldrich , DD.... Tighter?

My next pup will be the aftermath or Painkiller, they're just really difficult to get over here tho
