Suhr Rasmus or Warmoth ?

Hi all,
I already have 9 guitars so this is a ... *whim* :p
With a low budget (900euro max): Suhr Rasmus (tremolo Gotoh 510TS and FL/FL/SSH+ pups) or a Warmoth with SD pups (which?) and VS100 tremolo ?

Re: Suhr Rasmus or Warmoth ?

Rasmus has the Suhr factor, plus they are re-assembled and setup by the same Suhr staff that does their Suhr Pro (let's call it production) line.

With Warmoth it's 100% customizable and you get exactly what you had in mind but you can't forget the X-factors, might go for a combo that simply doesn't work, wood that isn't what you wanted plus, assembly is very often one of the most overlooked aspects of a build, it can REALLY make it great or break it bad.

In the end it's what is more your cup of tea, me, if there was a guitar that was mostly what I wanted and I could mod it the rest of the way I'd do it. However there wasn't one so I went full handmade custom and I must admit that not one moment passes that I ain't glad I did :)

Re: Suhr Rasmus or Warmoth ?

Have you had the chance to play one of the Rasmus guitars yet? Is there a local shop where you could do that to get a feel for them? I think that might help the process...

Do you want a playable guitar right off the bat?
If yes, get the Suhr. I've heard nothing be good things about the Rasmus guitars.

If you want to get more hands on, DIY, the get the Warmoth.
Warmoth make great *parts*.
The parts alone do not make a guitar playable.
The parts must be tweaked to make the guitar playable.
It isn't rocket science, but it can take a bit of time and energy and/or money.

I have already a pre-assembled with Warmoth neck and body (schaller FR and EMG SA/SA/89), but in my case, it was easy being my guitar is a copy (maybe even better :p) of Suhr Reb Beach

Unfortunately, no

All true but I think: if and when I want to sell that guitar, which will have greater marketability?

Re: Suhr Rasmus or Warmoth ?

I would heavily consider the Rasmus... if they had 1 11/16 necks. They are slightly narrower. For many people, that isn't a deal breaker. For me, it is due to cramped space. You need to have an understanding of what you are really looking for before making comparisons. Once you do, decisions become really easy.

Re: Suhr Rasmus or Warmoth ?

the problem with warmoth is it'll look exactly like the guitar you want, but there's a very high chance it won't sound like it--then should you choose to sell it, you'll have horrible resale value

play before you buy

if you do your research properly when choosing the wood and dimensions you won't ever want to sell your Warmoth, i've had mine for over 20 years and the only thing i regret is not getting jumbo frets or having it drilled for a single coil in the neck...

Re: Suhr Rasmus or Warmoth ?

If you are young and you don't know what you want choose the Rasmus.
If you are selling & buying guitars all the time no matter your age choose the Rasmus.
If you know what you want assemble a Warmoth with Gotoh 510TS and Suhr pickups. If you know what you want why you think of selling a custom guitar you will order to your specs???

I have three Warmoths and I will never sell them. I knew they were going to sound great before I heard them because all the parts were of great quality. Making a quality bolt-on neck electric guitar is not rocket science. Choose parts of great quality and do an excellect assembling & setup.

Re: Suhr Rasmus or Warmoth ?

Tough one. I' probably do the suhr one since it would likely play like a dream off the bat, have a resale value, and be a keeper. I think they look boring personally though.

The Suhr, without a doubt.
Warmoths make for great parts-casters, but they tend to be so personalized that they're hard to resell as a whole unit. You'd probably be better served piecing it out.

Re: Suhr Rasmus or Warmoth ?

in order to increase my confusion :p, today I received this offer:
Charvel San Dimas Style 1 HH Black (jap) 639euro + ss (34euro).

I think:
- Rasmus is a typical *I would but I can't...* :p, I never try it, good guitar I think/hope but I don't know, there's something that does not convince me (ping tuners? Made in china? Really I don't know, but this is my sensation...)
- Warmoth: *all that glitters ain't gold* :p, beautiful pieces of wood but tops of solid body are very thin, almost a sticker... Also if I *copy* the rasmus (alder body maple/neck roses, suhr pups and Gotoh 510), perhaps saving €€ buying directly rasmus
- Charvel San Dimas Style 1 HH Black: a rock solid guitar. Great pups (SD , of course :p), excellent wood of the neck (q-sawn maple) and a bridge ... that I don't know, but I don't think in the East are incapable to assemble tremolo with parts from Germany (if it is true what I read ...)

So... only one certainty at the time: G.A.S. is really a dear enemy

Re: Suhr Rasmus or Warmoth ?

Warmoths tops almost a sticker.are you mad?! They're at least 1/8". That's like 3mm. That's much thicker than veneer. C'mon.

So in your opinion Fender (a mass production company) is choosing wood of better quality for a cheap-middle of the line model than Warmoth, a small custom shop who are specialists on wood and only wood.

You are not convinced about the Rasmus because the tuners are Chinese? You think they won't offer tuning stability? I have american made guitar with ****ty (probably american) tuners.

There is no Charvel anymore, Fender is using the name because it sells. In my opinion even some of the custom shop Fenders are not rock solid guitars but most people are blinded by the historic name.

I'm not mad, but you certainly are not very nice...
In every cases, I confirm, warmoth tops (no carved top!) are only appearance, - like a stiker :p -, so **zero effect** on the sound.
But if my opinion is stupid, please read following it, by warmoth web site "I know, an alder body with our 1 / 8" thick top will still sound like an alder body, but the appearance of May have your favorite exotic wood. "

Fantastic.
Where I wrote this?

p.s.:
*Rasmus guitar* is assembled in China...

You take a word here, one there and you make me say that I never wrote.
It should be fun, I hope...

Like a sticker sounds quite demeaning, when its a 1/8" top. Agreed. It won't do much for your tone, its mostly for esthetics. But a 'sticker' would be more like a photoflame or real (paperthin) veneer. No intention to be disrespectful ;)
