A few weeks back I purchased an eminence swamp thang to load into my Marshall 1912 1x12 cab, which sits under my Mesa express 5:25 amp.
Last night was it's first gig and I must admit it really does cut the mustard next to the G12B that comes as stock in these cabs.
First off both speakers have pretty good bass response that the baby cab really needs. Tone wise the swamp is just a bit more articulate in response and sounds more alive, difficult things to really quantify.
The Big difference was volume. Just because something is more sensitive on paper does not mean it's going to do the business out in the real world but the eminence really delivers at gig volumes. We only use a vocal PA so I'm only competing with a really loud drummer with a really loud kit.
Last night was the first time since I stopped using my old Ashdown that I've really been able to truly compete.
All of a sudden I can hear myself well, got some seriously tasty feedback sustain and could really get into each note a phrase so much more than on previous gigs.
That done I micked up the cab just spread the sound front of house more... which seemed to work a treat.
I actually got complimented on my tone
last time we gigged people were asking me to turn up.
All in all £60 well spent.
Only down side of the night was my stinky cold meaning I was turning away after singing each line to have a good cough.
