Sweet Child Intro - how bad do I suck?

Re: Sweet Child Intro - how bad do I suck?

I play it your way, Robbie. It's just that it's quite difficult for a learner to do that.

I find that I can play it easy enough - but it's sooooo easy to hit a duff note.

I had a quick go at this last night. Can I ask what fingering you use on the intro riff, please?

Lee

Well, when I play it I just use my index, middle and third fingers. My guitar teacher uses his pinky too, but on the video (as far as I can make out Slash only uses 3 fingers) Guess as long as you're comfortable and it sounds good that's all that matters.

Thanks for all the kind words and advice everyone :)

Nice work mate!!

You mentioned to me last week about showing you how to play it, if I recall? OK, I should be up and running to post clips this week (touch wood!), but I thought it was pretty much fine (apart from the one bum note, but show me a player that's never played a bum note and I'll show you a liar!! :laugh2:

The only suggestion I would make is that the intro has to be very precise. So at the end of the first bar, when you go from the high G (1st string) to the A (3rd string) and then the F#(1st string) to the A (3rd string), try to make those notes as disntinct as possible with practically no ringing. So don't barre or mini-barre the strings to play that (thats what it sounded like you were doing to play it). Play individual notes. Repeat that same technique in each measure throughout the intro. You're almost there and with that sliught technique change, you'll have it nailed mate!!! Don;t take this as a criticism - its good - it's just you asked me how to play it last week so I thought I'd really listen to your clip and help how I could...

Playing it at gig volume through a driven Marshall, you have to make sure each note is REALLY distinct, so it's good practice!!! :)

Nice stuff...

Hi, thanks for the advice - I wasn't barring the strings, just a little sloppy with my timing and finger movement I think. I'll keep at it til I get it spot on.

I'd love to hear your version of it for a bit of inspiration :)

Clip sounded good to me. I was considering buying a guitar port and go figure.... they dont make a guitarport version that will work with my flatscreen Mac Computer.

I had a bit of a go at it tonight, but i can't see any way of doing it without the pinky.

It's a bit rough but i think the riff is right.

hey just lsitenied to urs. i think there are a few things you should look at while practising that again.
1.smoothness
2. accents (and stuff liek that forgoot the naem ...)

its not smooth enough..well i dont think youve learned it that lnog anyways. but yeah it seems like ur fingers are really "Hard"...liek not smooth.. practise will improve this :13:

accents.. if you learned piano or anything.. actually u may know this. like this is a 4/4 song. the first note is the loudest, second note is third louest, third note is 2nd loudest and fourth note is the softest. i think it'll be better if u pay attention to that. (not jsut on this song. everything as well.) hope it helps

a bit too fast but no prob. ur missing the groove in this i think. pay attention to timing and accuracy. also u missed a few notes i think. i know people say that the "notes bang into each other" but its just a little bit which makes it sound kinda nice. on some of your notes you hang a little too much.
practise makes perfect :13: . and play with the song sometime. its really fun! hah

sorry if im being over critical here

Re: Sweet Child Intro - how bad do I suck?

Will you stop showing off you little brat? It took me hours to get mine to that level.
I suppose it's all done with the lil' pinky too.

You should be banned.
