Talk To Me About The Eleven Rack

I've got great amps to play through and everything, but it's just too much of a pain for me to mic them up, crank them to the level to get a good sound, and do any recording. I also need another recording setup as well. I just noticed that the Eleven Racks have come down in price quite a considerable amount, and they come with Pro Tools 10, I believe. Also, I need a new computer, and I figure I could kill a few birds with one stone.

I searched on here and read through a few threads pertaining to the Eleven Rack, but I figured I'd ask again and see if people are still digging them.

I'd also appreciate any help you could give me on what computer I'd need to get to run all of this. I'd like to keep the computer as a Windows computer so that I can still surf the net with it. I just don't know anything about Macs, and really don't feel like having to learn about them, honestly. I'm also not a fan of laptops.

I'd probably bump the RAM up to 6 GB and crank the disc space up as well.

Any PC built specifically as a "DAW" will work. No need for the overpriced junk that Avid recommends.

I've been tempted by the Eleven Rack, but it REQUIRES Pro Tools for editing. F..k that. I hate Pro Tools and there's no reason for me to have to use it to edit patches on a piece of gear.

Yeah, I was reading where you said you didn't like that in previous threads. That is kind of screwed up, but i'm sure I could deal with it. i've never used Pro Tools before, or anything else really for that matter. I've always used my Roland VS-1880 to record everything. Although I love the way it sounds, it's just getting outdated and I think I'd have a whole lot easier time with Pro Tools.

What kind of price do you think I'm looking at for a computer?

you need at least a dual core. I got a quad core for $400 new from dell about 4 years ago. your old recordings sound great! you should try to get used to the software and recording first before getting elevenrack etc I think though.

mixing is a lot more important than getting eleven rack axefx or kemper, you can blow 2K on that stuff and still have horrible sounding recordings. just use basic free software for amp modeling first till you get better at it to see if you even like mixing and recording using the software. also, download reaper now and mess with it.

yeah, something tells me if you get a good computer recording setup and fool around with some of the free virtual amps available, you'll dial in some great stuff given your ears for mixing and guitar tones.

Yeah, I hear where you're coming from Everdrone and Dank, but I could still use the Eleven Rack with a power amp and run it through my 4x12's also. Very true, Agileguy.

I have been recording for 4 years. I figure I will just save up till the kemper 2 comes out. I do not think my mixing skills are up to par to justify a purchase now, and I need to save up. Also, I have never heard a fuzz or really organic sound come out of any modeler yet. I heard the axefx v. 11rack on youtube and recordings, but was not satisfied. really, you can "test" out any of these if your final product is just the recording. for really processed sounding distortion like 80s hair metal or death metal, lots of free modelers sound about the same to my ears, but I have hopes for the kemper, just waiting to hear some fuzzy recordings since most that use it are going for light rock tones or the uber br00tz djent. the real difference so far is using IR impulses methinkz...

Why? I've done this with every computer I've ever recorded on. I only ever had issues with ProTools 6 on Windows, but it was well known to be completely crappy software.

I bought an Eleven Rack about 4 months ago and I can tell you that I'm actually really impressed with it. Having a few quality amps in the house, I figured I'd just use the mic to record them, but to be honest it sounds good enough that I just plug in and play. The process is so much easier than taking the time to mic it up the cab, move equipment around (if you're like me and have no dedicated studio space) and all that. You can also record the guitar 'direct' at the same time as you record with the modeled amp. You can then re-amp that direct signal later if you want to use your own amp tone down the road.

Having PT10 bundled with it definitely helps with the value to cost ratio. I've used Cakewalk software in the past without any issues, as well as hardware units. I think that PT is an excellent program and, while it's taken me awhile to learn, it is really flexible. Not user friendly to the extreme or anything, and some of it's functions I find counter intuitive but overall if I run into a problem many times a you tube search sorts me out. With all of the strengths, the part I like about it LEAST isn't really a PT issue at all. It's that you have to use an iLok. Now, I know people who have used the same dongle for a long time, but mine has already had to be replaced and I was down for a little over 2 weeks b/c I didn't take the 'insurance' to get an immediate replacement. But if you're not recording all the time and/or recording isn't critical to your income, I guess it's more of an inconvenience than a deal breaker.

I said screw it and went ahead and bought one, and I'll tell you why. The Eleven Rack with the expansion pack, Pro Tools 10, and four free plug-ins is $648 right now at Musicians Friend. Pro Tools 10 is about $600 as is by itself. Musicians Friend has a 15% off sale right now if you spend more than $449. I called my order in and the salesperson gave me the 15% off. That right there brought the Eleven Rack and everything that comes with it down to $551. That just seemed like a no brainer to me. I also bought a rack, a bunch of cables, and some other stuff. It basically boiled down to me buying the Pro Tools 10, and getting the Eleven Rack and all of the other items for free, if you want to put it into a different perspective. I think I did good, and I'm happy about it. I just need to get me a good computer setup for recording now, but I'm in no major hurry for that.

It's awesome. If you ever owned a POD then you would probably love it. It still feels like you're playing a processor, but it's probably the most real tube amp feeling processor out there. Pro Tools was a pain the ass, but I got it when it first came out. Maybe they've improved since. The funny thing is that you can pretty much copy any famous sound out there, but not using the amps modeled after those player's amps. For instance, the best Satch and Eric Johnson tones I ever found for the Eleven Rack came from models like the Soldano. The Marshall/Chandler Tube Driver didn't get the EJ tone as much as a couple of the other models. If you go on the internet and listen to samples of Eleven Rack artist tones, you may be surprised at which amp model is getting the most authentic tone.

No idea. Specs say no but I'd contact their support and ask them. There's nothing to stop you getting a computer with Win7 on it or taking win8 off and putting Win7 on it.
