Tater project.

She has been sitting in the closet for a while with the Washburn USA neck and body.
Last night I ordered the Gotoh Floyd in bright chrome ( $113 SHIPPED from Mojotone!) and have a Black JB Trembucker/ Alnico II set with one a RW/RP on hand to go in with the JB. I also have a bright Chrome set of Gotoh tuners to go on her.
I will likely pull it down today and start by stripping out the electronics and replacing everything then pull the trem system.
Here she is right now

Keep you posted on the progress.

As I've said before, cool axe. I do like the satin chrome of the stock hardware. Kinda wish Gotoh offered more colours for the locking trem, like FR does now.

Re: Tater project.

In before everyone tells you it's not worth it.
It's worth it as this neck and body is solid as a rock and is not very heavy. Neck is a killer with a profile about like the PRS standard and the board is flat and the fretwork on the big jumbos nice and clean. When you played it the response was even all over the neck and it sounded downright decent even with the POS blades ( that is for that short period of time that you could get that absolute junk licensed Floyd trem to hold the strings at the saddle!!).
This is every bit as well built a raw neck and body as the highest line import Jackson Pro Soloist is.
If the basic platform was not solid I wouldn't touch it!

If the guys at Mojotone had the Cosmo Black I would have gone that rout but all they had was the black or chrome. I found a Cosmo Black Gotoh for about $40 more with shipping but did not have the Cosmo tuners on hand so in the end I just went the chrome rout. I already had everything else in my parts box before the last few days but the trem and the JB so ---.

Re: Tater project.

You don't have to convince me, I've spent more fixing up worse, I'm sure.

LOL I know that bro it's the "others" you were referring to that was for.
This thing should be a killer and I will have very little $ in it as long as the Gotoh fits with out any rout issues.

Re: Tater project.

This one's been on my mind ever since you first got it, I must say it looks pretty cool, especially considering the price!

Re: Tater project.

It's all here so---. The rest ( pots chrome knobs ect )is in my parts box keep you posted as it comes together.
Thinking of ditching the tone control for a mini switch and coil tap for the JB as I almost never use a tone control..

Re: Tater project.

Well this one just threw me a big curve!
The Gotoh won't fit the rout it's to narrow. Was not all a loss though as the Gotoh fits the rout on the Washburn project like a GLOVE!
Now I have to figure out what will fit this thing here is a photo with the Gotoh in the rout on Tater.

Sure didn't take long when I pulled the old system to figure out why there were tuning issues with the guitar look at these ( used to be ) knife edges YIKES!!

Wonder what would fit this rout??

Re: Tater project.

Yep but with the Gotoh fitting the Washburn project not all bad. One more step towards finishing the Washburn one step back on Tater such is life LOL!
Here is the trem in the Washy and this one when it's done should be a monster!!

Re: Tater project.

What're the post-to-post measurements?

Will get them later today. I used the Gotoh in particular because it has the cut out for one post then the long straight knife edge on the other side so if it had been close it would fit. Did not figure the width on the Mr Potato was this much wider than a standard Floyd.
I like the way the Gotoh uses a nylon busing and set screw to adjust arm tension like a Wilkerson better than any other Floyd design out. With my other Floyd type trems ( Schaller or OFR) I am constantly having to reach down with a finger and tighten the lock ring on the bar as I play. This is the one thing I absolutely LOVE about my Wilkersons there is no slop on the trem arm, I just pop the bar in and never touch it again all night. Gotoh now is building the Wilkerson unit and on the Gotoh Floyd the trem arm attaches the exact same way as the Wilkerson. It's a shame that I can't use this system on the Tater guitar. Now have to figure out what will fit.

The Ibanez Edge Pro III I have is like that... I swapped out the bridge block on mine for brass, we'll see if that improves the general blahness of the bridge.
