Tele Bridge Pup Advice

I'm working with an alder body/maple neck tele with ashtray/3 barrel bridge. It has a 5/2 in the neck and Alnico Pro II in the bridge.
The 5/2 neck sounds great with a little extra treble, kind of muscular tele/strat. When going to the bridge APII the lower strings are snappy and full but the high strings are ice picky, even with tone control backed off about 1/4 or 1/3 of the way. If the tone control is backed off any more, the high strings lose the ice pick but the low strings lose their snap.
I've spent a few hours working with pickup height and have yet to find a good compromise.
Btw, I did try the 5/2 bridge in this guitar but didn't find it to be the right match for this guitar - treble stings still too bright.

So, any ideas on which bridge pickup could keep the goodness of the APII low strings but slightly darker on the high strings? The JD will not work as the staggered poles make the G string too loud.

Howdy,

The best I can offer is that I'm totally sold on DiMarzio's Twang Kings. Good luck!

I was about to suggest brass saddles for the top 4 strings and steel for the E and A.

Re: Tele Bridge Pup Advice

Thanks for your suggestions, guys. Bridge has 3 slotted barrel brass saddles.
I put the 5/2 bridge back in and experimented more with height. Also, lowered the neck 5/2 a bit and that made it less woofy. This combination seems promising.
Part of my problem was that for some reason I was OCD about having both pickups the same volume. Now they are set to where each one sounds the best. The bridge is louder than the neck, but adjusting the guitar volume takes care of that. Also, this setup makes for a stronger middle position.
If I grow weary of this set of pickups the Twang Kings will be the next experiment.
