Tele mods

Re: Tele mods

I don’t know if that is so much an upgrade as it is just a different bridge.

I didn’t realize the CV tele was a pine body. Might have to procure me one

Re: Tele mods

i love my callaham bridge but they arent cheap

forgot the easiest of all Mods JB

#10 or 1/4" Rubber O Ring under both Tele Knobs. just slide them down the shaft to the bottom and retighten knobs against them. Makes the pots only turn when you intentionally want to -they won't turn if you bump them.

gives resistance that feels much better

i actually dont like that, i like the knobs to move freely and that adds too much resistance. obviously, for some people this is a good trick though

Well, it really depends on a few things -the inherit resistance on the Pots of your guitar, the weight of your nobs and the fact that you actually control how much resistance you add to the pot when you retighten the nob down, -so you can do this mod an only impart a touch of resistance if you want.

Maybe you tried it with a different brand O ring than I use also -I've got a Hillman part number that is super versatile if you ever reconsider

Even so, if you don't like it -either do I, I take it all back.... and was only commenting for a friend :lmao:

A different solution to the problem is putting heavier nobs on a Tele. All parts and Gotoh etc make some after market Tele nobs that are about twice as heavy as standard ones -it makes the pot turns a bit smoother feeling.

Re: Tele mods

i freakin LOVE the callaham tele knobs but at $40 a pair, they aint cheap. not sure what o ring i used, whatever i had that was the right size, but it added a bit too much resistance on the esquire i tried it on. but as with most things, what i like and what works for me isnt what works for everyone or even anyone else.

Haven't used callaham -but they sound like should be heavy as **** for $40!!!!

Re: Tele mods

they are heavy but its the knurl i love, almost to the point of being sharp

Re: Tele mods

Gonna have to look into new knobs, I guess. The ones on the CV are ok, but feel kind of sand papery. They're also making me want to put metal barrel knobs on the volumes of my Strats, sooooo much easier to grab than normal Strat knobs.

Re: Tele mods

I think someone mentioned it earlier, but a control plate with an angled switch is worth looking into:

Some places will also let you move the volume knob a bit further back so that you aren't bumping into it when you're in the bridge position.

Re: Tele mods

i always flip the plate to get the volume under my hand, works well for me ymmv

I love it flipped. Both knobs are easily accessed, and it’s easier to hook the switch with your pinky. With the neck bypassing the tone control, the switch is well out of the way for tone knob tricks. There’s seriously no downside to reversing it.

Re: Tele mods

the allparts knobs arent like the callaham ones, at least not the allparts ones ive seen. these callaham things are beefy and stabby :D

Re: Tele mods

I am sure the AP are not as nice as Callaham, but they are half the price. :D

Wasn’t it Gatton who used the crazy knurled knobs?

Re: Tele mods

I read somewhere the other day that Danny Gatton would give the pots a sharp blow straight into the shaft, effectively breaking them so they turned with almost no resistance.

Re: Tele mods

Bourns pots are almost too loose. Weird at first but nice once you’re used them.

i believe so. ive tried two types of allparts knurled knobs and they are ok, but nothing special. just like every other knurled knob other than the callaham which are just. so. damn. good. i want a machinist buddy of mine to make em for me so i dont have to spend $40 a pair

Re: Tele mods

ive done it twice. about to do it again. if you dont like em, send em to meeee :D
