tele pickup/baseplate question

i put a quarter pounder in the bridge of my tele nearly two years ago, and the old stock pickup has just been laying around ever since.

i happened to find it a couple minutes ago, and i noticed that the baseplate is held on by magnetic pull alone.

so i'm wondering if i can put some extra twang in my quarter pounder by putting said copper plate on the bottom of it.

anyone tried this or have any suggestions/comments?

You probably could. But that bassplate is held on by melted wax...it'll howl like you won't believe if you don't wax it on. Magnetic attraction is not enough. Light a candle and get some melted wax on it...then heat it up with a soldering tool and press it on tight until the wax hardens again. Also, don't forget to attach the ground wire to the bassplate and to the black wire of your pickup.

Might work, but why would you mess with the beauty of a QP tele pickup?

why not? i'm not doing anything that's going to permanantly alter the pickup. i think it'll just be a fun little mod to try. if it sucks, i can just take it off.

That's right! Lindy sells those plates for the same reason, so say they make the pups less hum inducing also ... could be, any ideas on that lew?

I do use the Fralin Bassplate on the bridge pickup of some of my Strats and feel it improves the bass and lower mids maybe 5%...a noticeable improvement, especially with a lower to medium output style Strat bridge pickup in the 6K to 7K range. I haven't noticed it decreasing hum tho...I doubt it does. Lew
