Telecaster pickup adjustment

Tele bridge pickups use tubing to hold the pickup snug against the body, as opposed to springs. is there any reason for this, or could I snag some springs and replace the tubing with them? i think this is the source of my adjustment problem. when I take off the bridge and look, the screw has made too big a distance for the tubing to support.

I'm not an expert in this field, but i think springs should work fine.

Re: Telecaster pickup adjustment

Whatever method you use on a traditional Tele neck pickup mounting, it needs to be under some compression when the PU reaches its correct working height. Springs are traditional. One long block of foam under the bobbin will work. Compressible rubber tubing has the advantage that, once pushed over the screw threads, it should stay put while you offer up the screws to their holes in the bottom of the cavity.

I have a couple of Strats where I cut a tubing spacer in half and stacked 1 1/2 on each side to get the right tension on the neck pup. You might try that. I like tubing because it doesn't rattle.

You can get soft rubber tubing at some hardware stores or medical supply stores.
