Agreed 100% on the kicking the habit thing. But the Governor is Eminence's version of a Vintage 30. They eliminated a touch of the mid spike that the Vintage 30 is famous for, and I'm a big fan. The Governors on their own don't quite cut it, in my experience, since I had a 2x12 loaded with them, but paired with the Wizards, they sound fantastic.

thanks for the info, there was a website that listed which Eminence speakers were close matches to celestions but i never bookmarked it and i could never find it again..i also have a "man o war" that sounded quite nice on the "tonecones" cd but that is in my TM60 combo and it also isn't broken in but i may sell that to fund an SG...

its a good looking amp also.............i like the sexy girl metal plate....although some one mentioned it looked tacky....i like tacky.......it's only rock n roll.

That could be, I haven't tried them yet. I just know that they have replaced the XXX line. I would assume the tone would be similar if not the same.

I still think the Triple X is a pretty cool amp. I can't bring myself to get rid of mine just because of the novelty factor in such a high gain amp.

Probaly not your music, but i believe Max form SoulFly is using the newer 3120 Peavys in his back line.

I am the only guy that preferred mine with 6L6s, which is what should be in yours if it's actually a new one. Many will tell you to put EL-34s in there the instant you bring it home, but there's no hurry. Get your mileage out of what's in there first, and swap after you've familiarized if you want.

If you do put EL-34's in it DO NOT put JJ EL34L's in it until you can verify that your amp can handle them. A lot of the XX's had problems with plate resistors burning out in them. Eventually Peavey upgraded them (I think it was from 3W to 5W resistors?) Anyhow if you run EL34L's in one with the 3W resistors you practically guaranteed to burn them up which will take out the tubes and possibly more.

I'd call Peavey with the serial number and find out which ones are in your amp. You could also look for yourself if you know what to look for and observe all the standard safety precautions. If you don't know what they are just call Peavey.

well where do i start?......i'll just tell the story.....those who know anything about me know i love putting up pics of my gear..well..i did pay off the triple x today...i get it home.......and the mother fckr dont work......the very faint sound was like listening to a transitor radio....and all 3 channles are like this......so i make the call,pack it back up...take it back to g.c...they change preamp tubes and the 0ne in front and to the left ,of the 6l6 tubes dosnt light up....so ..they ask me what i want to do..well thats easy..send it to peavey and make them fix it.......so my 499 dollar brand new peavey triple x head head is going to see dr. peavey ....i want this amp...so not much else i could do...i will keep ya up to date..i wonder how many weeks this is going to take?

i am still trying to figure out why it worked one day and now nothing.....well it was sold as a new piece and they assured me it would be repaired at no cost to me. i did not hear anything out of the ordinary when i checked it out...now im wondering why they are letting a 1200 dollar amp go for 500...besides being marked clearance...but i am sticking with my guts that this deal will be worth it in the long run,and will let peavey do their thing and make the warranty repairs....damn..right out of the gate and getting warranty work..not the ideal way to start a relationship with a new amp...it did not appear to have been dropped.

Ah jeez that is brutal, good news is it is a great amp and worth the wait especially at that price. They are biased very cold out of the box so you might want to see about getting a tech to check that out for you. I am not a huge fan of the stock tubes but whatever is in mine are all right, a little noisy so they are probably going soon. My original X I swapped in Svet Winged C EL34s and Ruby pre's, loved that setup, but I am staying with 6L6's this time around.

I don't know if I am special in some way but I think it is a great Rock N Roll amp. Tons and tons of versatility and all kinds of useable sounds from all the channels though I really only like the clean channel pretty wide open.

Good luck with it when you get it back. I am sure you'll enjoy it. Check out the Peavey Whammy Bar forum, lots of info culled banging around there.

Sorry to hear that, Lord knows what it may have endured during it's time at a GC.

They are well built amps and will serve you well once fixed up. Mine has been going strong for 6 or 7 years.

Used is around $900? When they came out, I think that was around the "new" price.
