Tell me everything about the Blues Jr!

it looks like i'm getting a Fender Blonde Blues Jr. from theJangus in the next couple days that has had JJ tubes put in it.

so what's the other popular mods and the "must" mods/speaker upgrades etc...i think i'll eventually buy at least another 1x12 cab for it too.

thanks in advance for all your help!

Re: Tell me everything about the Blues Jr!

I'm getting a Vintage 30 for mine as soon as I can...I plugged mine into a buddy of mine's Mesa/Boogie 2x12 with V30's and this little dude can RIP!

Re: Tell me everything about the Blues Jr!

a little blonde extension 1x12 in blonde would be really cool for this thing..let me know if you ever find one!

Re: Tell me everything about the Blues Jr!

just get a decent speaker and preamp tubes, you'll be good to go

how are the JJ's?
I have JJs in the 2 and 3 preamp slots, plus the EL 84s. I run an NOS GE in V1, 'cause my BJ deserves it! :)
I play the darn thing all the time.

Re: Tell me everything about the Blues Jr!

they can be great amps. a new speaker is a must for the best tone. i usually use celestians but i have two of the new eminance that are pretty nice. another suggestion is to lower the bias a little which may not be something you can do by yourself

Re: Tell me everything about the Blues Jr!

have a friend who replaced his speakers and tubes totally. sounds totally different. Clean is GOOD, with the FAT switch on, its even better !

Re: Tell me everything about the Blues Jr!

BJ an PJ are great amps. One thing that is needed is a bit more headroom. any way to accomplish that? I hope to get the pro junior soon.

Re: Tell me everything about the Blues Jr!

cleaner tubes, more efficient speaker.

a 12at7 in v1 will give you less preamp gain, a 12at7 in v3 will drive the power section a little less. lowering the bias helps

Re: Tell me everything about the Blues Jr!

what speakers have you guys liked the best in there?

Re: Tell me everything about the Blues Jr!

Hoss,
I have a Jensen RI C12N in mine ... sounds great. However, Scott_F didn't like that speaker in one he had ... it can be a bright speaker, but my BJ seems to have a warmer tone than others

I think jeremy is using a Celestion Greenback ... others have used V30s, G12H30s, and Weber BlueDogs

personal taste

just play the amp for a while first before deciding

Re: Tell me everything about the Blues Jr!

i'll definitely play it awhile before i change anything...the greenback was what i was thinking if i did.

how about running an extension cab...have any of you tried that?!

Re: Tell me everything about the Blues Jr!

I've been wanting a Blues JR for a while now!!!! Do you think they have enough guts to be heard over a quiet drummer.... Not a whole band just a drummer who does not hit the tins too hard....

Re: Tell me everything about the Blues Jr!

from everything i've gathered you should be in good shape...but, i've yet to have first hand observation on this:)

Re: Tell me everything about the Blues Jr!

like curly said i use a greenback in mine, nice woody tone. works well in a band situation since it doesnt have lots of top or bottom so it stands out and cuts thru but doesnt take up as much sonic space. a friend on mine has a c12n in his and really likes it. its much more classic fendery, cleaner mids, firm bottom with clean highs. the greenback is much middier with less bottom and a rounder top that barks a little more, mine sounds like a cross between a vox ac15 and fender dlx.

i usually recomend a g12h-30w. its more efficient than a greenback so itll give you more clean headroom and has more bottom. ive set up a half dozen jrs with this speaker and it is a great all around combo.

i have a texas heat and i think it would sound nice in there as well.

Yes!! Without a doubt!! I used to jam with my brother who plays drums all the time. No volume issues ever for the two of us.

Re: Tell me everything about the Blues Jr!

since it's rated for 8ohms...would another 8ohm cab be to much for it taking it down to 4ohms or would it be better to hook it up to two 16 ohm speakers in a cab and disconnect the 8ohm speaker in the amp? yeah i'm an....ohm...moron!:chairfall
