Test clip, ears & opinions needed

Re: Test clip, ears & opinions needed

i like your tone a lot. thats what mine sort of sounds like. but if you feel the need to turn down the bottom, then by all means homes. but IMO its really good.

Re: Test clip, ears & opinions needed

Sounds fine to me. Maybe it could use a little more presence instead of cutting the lows?

Re: Test clip, ears & opinions needed

I dig it. I don't hear anything wrong with it. Maybe a bit more presence like Jolly said, but that'd be it.

Re: Test clip, ears & opinions needed

Thanks for listening, guys!

Jolly, can you give me a bit more of what you mean by 'presence'?

I made a few changes & reuploaded it just now (original link goes to new version). I eq'd some of the low end out of the guitars & turned the drums & bass guitar up a touch.

Listening with headphones, my timing falls apart on the faster section, so I need to re-record that part. Not tonight, but should get it done tomorrow.

Thanks again for listening! :)

Re: Test clip, ears & opinions needed

I liked it the way it was before. Sounded bigger, more explosive. Kinda lost that after you remixed it.

Re: Test clip, ears & opinions needed

Yeah, I'll play around with it some more tonight. Hard to get that sweet spot nailed down.

Re: Test clip, ears & opinions needed

Guitar Tone is not bad, could be tighter.
Drum eq sounds strange.
bass drum and bass guitar sound like an indistinct muddy sludgefest.
Maybe try reducing low-mids from the drum track.

A bit more hardcore than your usual stuff. I like it.

It still sounds good, but it seems like it lost that fullness. Anyways, here's what I meant. I thought it sounded good and I thought the low end of it was fine. I just think it needed that "presence"...meaning turn up the presence on whatever amp/modeler you're recording on. It doesn't take the bass away, doesn't add more treble...just gets more in your face. I'm not good at explaining stuff....sorry. Anyone wanna help me here?

Re: Test clip, ears & opinions needed

The presence knob on an amp is kinda like a tone knob on a guitar. Turn down the tone knob and it kinda sounds mushier and more bass heavy, turn it up and the highs sparkle and it adds clarity. More presence would add more punch and clarity to the track the way you had it originally.

Re: Test clip, ears & opinions needed

I thought he was being obscure with his sound descriptions, I had no clue he was being very direct! Drugs are bad, mm'kay? :chairfall

OK, remixed again. No new recorded parts, so still sloppy.

I brought the low end up on the guitars (about halfway between last night's two test clips) & brought their overall level back up a bit, also about halfway between the prior two tests.

I cut the low end on the bass & upped the mids.

I cut the low & high ends on the drums, & upped the mids. I cranked up the reverb on the drums, & brought the overall level up a tad.

Updated the original link again.

Might be on the right track! The kicks sound clearer, the bass sounds MUCHO better, & the guitars got some balls back.

Yes? No?

Re: Test clip, ears & opinions needed

Sounds better than the first remix. I still liked the original mix best, though.

Thanks for helping me to clarify. Like I say, I'm not good at explaining things.

I'll listen later on tommorow/today on the new mix. I would now, but I'm jammin on John Cash.:)
