THD Yellow Jacket EL84 converters

Thanks for all the advice on putting EL34's in my Crate Blue Voodoo 60. I'm not going to do it now, but after cruising the web, I was reminded of these yellow jacket converters. Touted as just plug in and no biasing, thought I'd give them a shot. Always wanted to try EL84's anyway.

Has anyone tried these before and do they work good or can they damage the amp?

I used the yellow jacket converters before when I owned the THD Bivalve.
Great little tube adapter that really changes the voice of your amp. If you have specific questions about the adapter, I'd suggest emailing THD. They've got great customer service and are very helpful.

***Didn't you say that amp already was an EL84 based amp? The Yellow Jacket will convert an EL34/6L6 octal-type plug so you can use an EL84....not the other way around***

I've got one for my UniValve...just makes it that much more versatile!

I'm not sure what they cost new & the prices vary quite a bit on "Fleabay"....I went to www.univalve.net (yes, there ARE other Forums! :13: ) and posted a WTB note in the "buy/sell/trade" section. A guy hooked me up with the YJUni & a Tesla JJ EL84 for $25.00 shipped!!!

No, it's a 6L6 amp that I wanted to try EL34's in. I know what the yellow jackets do, just wanted to see if anyone had used them before and what they thought. Heard that univalve is GREAT. I don't know if I'd have the time to fiddle with it though.

Even though I'm playing 25 years, I'm just getting into the technical stuff now. I may just try a different BRAND of 6l6 tubes also. Didn't know that made a difference. The knowledge you seek when you get older, huh?

Great adaptors, but think about the grade of the EL84s before you plug em in (eg GT <6 = early distortion, >7 = more clean volume. Depends if you want headroom or not 'cos they'll be running in class A.
Measure the gap above the tubes before you order, some amps (eg Marshall combos) need the "shorty" version or you won't be able to fit them.
