Anyone Tried em? Do they really not cause any sort of damage to the amp? Do ya Really just have to Plug em in, or is there more to it than that?

any info appreciated. I already tried the forum search, an didn't really find anything. So thanks in advance everyone.

Re: THD yellow jacket.

They won't hurt your amp, but I didn't really care for the sound. They will cut the volume of your amp, though not as much as I would of liked.

The big problem is that they change the sound of an amp, making it brighter, while also killing the bass. They tend to make a sound more like a Vox AC30, which is a great sound for certain music (Think 60's pop rock/Beatles), but without really nailing the complexity of an AC 30.

If you really want to try them, pick up a set on Ebay. If you don't like them, you'll always get your money back. (that's what I did).

Re: THD yellow jacket.

Well, they'll change your class AB amp to class A & lower the volume.

Sounds great in some amps....not so much in others. Friggin' ROCKED in a Marshall 1959SLP cutting that 100 watter down to about 22-25 watts.

Stock, they come with GT EL84s...you can do better with a tube swap.

Used is your best bet :bigok:

Re: THD yellow jacket.

As stated, it will change the mojo

a 100w MArshall will suddenly sound REALLY VOX-like. If you want the Mojo the amp has, then stay with what you got and get a Hot Plate.

The other thing to keep in mind is they do Mix quite well with certain tubes like 6L6's, but they will give you a harmonic structure and overtones, that while being spongy and feeling good, may be somewhat less pleasing and rich than the amp was intended for.

I used to be curious about these back in the days of 50 watts for me.
