The beauty of Craigslist.... 80s treasures on the cheap.

Found this for 130.00 today. Vintage JB Player ( solid wood, not ply) in a factory Frankie finish. Has an upgraded Kahler ( or clone) trem, and an Invader copy, which is tolerable when set really low in the body. That will be upgraded.... The neck is beautiful, worth the price of admission alone. It also came with an old Ibanez HS case. Fun stuff. Just rewired it, and things sounds 80s rockin solid. 1150897_10202769369179618_1121748881_n.jpg

Cool! I think the paint is horrible....but that can be fixed. If the neck is sweet and that trem works - WIN!!!!!

Re: The beauty of Craigslist.... 80s treasures on the cheap.

Oh I love that paint. That is factory magic and will be embraced by my rapidly aging, coming of age in the 80s self. Neck is spectacular, gotta track down a bar for the trem.

Re: The beauty of Craigslist.... 80s treasures on the cheap.

I feel like Brad Gillis with this trem, totally forgot about how cool they can be. ( found a Fender bar that fit)

That's a cool period piece. I like how JB Player got around any EVH licensing issues by using a Kahler, cream knobs, no black stripes, and a different headstock than Kramer. How does the headstock look?

If it were mine, I'd add black stripes, white strat knobs, black pickup ring, and white/black zebra Whole Lotta, 78, or C-59 Hybrid.

It's definitely a fun way to spend $130. Nice phone cover too.

What I like about this is that it is mostly a Frank, but missing some essentials. The headstock is simply a Strat cut, which enhances the quirks of this guitar. Plays just beautifully, no shrillness with that trem either. Def gotta go low output alnico in it, and will prob put black chicken heads on it.

Nice deal you got there, that's a cool guitar. Definitely has the Super Strat vibe going on.

Totally agree about CL, you never know what you'll find. I check it 3 times a day. I bought both my electrics and all 3 of my acoustics on there, as well as 2 out of my 3 amps, and all of my guitar bags, cases, stands, straps and pedals, lol. Oh and my 5 different drum thrones I use as guitar stools. ;)

Re: The beauty of Craigslist.... 80s treasures on the cheap.

The only thing that hits my local CL are crappy beginner guitars the college students are bored with. Never anything very interesting.

Re: The beauty of Craigslist.... 80s treasures on the cheap.

Here in Minneapolis, CL is loaded with treasures, great source for any and all.

Re: The beauty of Craigslist.... 80s treasures on the cheap.

Last year I saw a bunch of old Charvel's on CL for cheap--but not so many at the start of the year. Great find there!

Re: The beauty of Craigslist.... 80s treasures on the cheap.

wammi-world will have them.

Yep! Beat me to it. They hooked me up. Nice score!! I used to score killer 80s axes on ebay on the cheap all the time. Kramer Focus' and Charvel models series and such. people have caught on and deals arent so plentiful on those any more.

Re: The beauty of Craigslist.... 80s treasures on the cheap.

Whenever I find something, the seller usually backs out or I don't have cash...

Re: The beauty of Craigslist.... 80s treasures on the cheap.

I scored an Epiphone Masterbilt (correctly spelled) Advanced Jumbo guitar for $250 on CL here in Atlanta. All solid wood guitar with a nice hardshell case. Guitar needed some TLC and a setup but is one of my favorite acoustics now.

But yeah Dave, I've had the same thing happen to me several times.

you've got to be in your glory kev :-)

Re: The beauty of Craigslist.... 80s treasures on the cheap.

The market is pretty dead in the UK too. I'm trying to sell an 80's Strat at the mo and no one is biting.

Re: The beauty of Craigslist.... 80s treasures on the cheap.

You got a great deal that Ibanez case is worth $50+ on its own.
