Edit: Someone suggested that maybe the worst cheap gear you've had could be a bit more interesting so why not merge it into both? What is the best/worst cheap gear you have had the pleasure or displeasure to use? Guitars, amps, pickups etc. I'm not talking about a higher end guitar or amp you got for cheap. I'm talking low retail prices that are way worth it. For me it was a Raven RG-20 amp. Great clean channel, nice lead channel with a very versatile gain control. Reverb is fantastic for an amp of this price. Not really a fan of the delay on it but I don't ever use delay anyway. I have it in my shop so I can hook Pandora up to the line in while I'm working. I'm in love with this little amp. It can do everything I throw at it. It responds to pedals very well but frankly I like the tone so much I don't hardly use any pedals with it.

Joyo Sweet Baby pedal

I came super close to buying Joyo' s vintage overdrive... but I went with the GFS twin overdrive instead. I liked the option of a ts9 and a ts808 clone in the same pedal.

Re: The best cheap gear you've had.

The vintage OD is pretty good too. I think they do good clones of what the original is.

Re: The best cheap gear you've had.

My "Made In China" double neck.

Added a Made In USA switch.

Both necks are a pleasure to use, stays in tune, pickups are Epiphones.

AND I don't care if any "Oh, it's not a Gibson crybabies" don't like it...
I don't see any thing that they own to match it,
Or come to think of it, any gear that they actual own and use ever being posted!

My Epi Dot Studio I got for a song on Craigs List. I love that guitar.

Very cool. There was a white Gibson double neck at a music store in San Jose California called The Starving musician. It was locked up in a glass case with a price of around $3700 if my memory serves correct.

Re: The best cheap gear you've had.

all my stuff is cheap

ok most of it

$203 out the door RG2EX1 violet blue added Duncans JB/Jazz triple shots

couple of Joyo pedals, they sound great but probably not the most durable

does a free Laney amp count? I mean it is solid state

man I had an Alvarez folk guitar that was $99 out the door with a case, but that was a sale

Re: The best cheap gear you've had.

I forgot about one. My brother has an Ibanez gio that he got as a family white elephant gift. Plays flawlessly and boy does it sound good. Bridge pickup sounds great and is not too harsh, neck is smooth and warm as it should be. both together does a pretty damn good B.B king.

My dearly departed H&K 30W SS combo. Great clean to overdrive channel, very effective EQ, real spring reverb and a distortion channel that could get some really heavy sounds. With the volume past noon, the Celestion in there couldn't handle those old school death metal sounds though.

Re: The best cheap gear you've had.

My Cort Source probably - my cheapest guitar I think. Perfectly playable anyway, and responded very well to surgery...

Re: The best cheap gear you've had.

My Epiphone SG G-400
The GFS Mean 90 set that's in it
Vox pathfinder 15r
Danelectro chicken salad pedal

Re: The best cheap gear you've had.

I got real lucky on a Squire Affinity Tele. Reg price only $179, I got it for $109 (I think it was an open box special). I gutted it, stripped it, refinished in fluorescent orange, reshaped (soft "V") and refinished the neck, made a bone compensated nut, and put in SD pups. It plays and sounds amazing. It is easily one of my top 5 favorite guitars of the 35 that I currently own (including American Deluxe Strat, limited edition Gibson LP, Gibson LP Goldtop, etc.).

Re: The best cheap gear you've had.

Epiphone Explorer. One of the best guitars I've ever played.

Re: The best cheap gear you've had.

My favorite piece of cheap gear is probably my Marshall 8100. An acquaintance of mine who decided that he liked crystalline substances more than playing guitar sold it to me for 100 bucks.

Re: The best cheap gear you've had.

My Godin Exit 22 is a fantastic guitar that cost me next to nothing used.

Re: The best cheap gear you've had.

Squier CV50s Tele.

BITD- a MIJ Squier Strat...

I had a really nice bottom of the line Ibanez SA160 or something I sold to someone here on the forum about 8 or 9 years ago. Had I put new pickups in it, I might never had sold it.

Amp- one of those Park (Marshall) solid state practice amps from the 1990s.

Pedal- DOD/Digitech Hot Head Distortion- DS1 clone with active High/Low controls.

There was a white 1985 MIJ 57 reissue Squier for sale about 200 miles away from me on craigslist. It was loaded with 3 Duncan rails and came with a hard case for $200. Emailed the guy as soon as I saw it but I was to late. It still haunts me that I did not get it.
