The best Marshall I've ever played (and more...)

Re: The best Marshall I've ever played (and more...)

Convinced me to call up Prymaxe and get this pedal.

First off, Prymaxe is in my opinion, a TOP notch outfit and has some really great deals and knowledgeable customer service... this was my first time but they made a point to beat Mad Ape and Thomann's retail price and that was ultra cool.

Second, the shipping was free and expedited... sort of a dream retail experience. I'll report back when I get it next week.

Good sound is good sound. BEst MArshall sound I ever had was from a Boss ME 6

Thanks for introducing such a pedal.
Didn't know about that brand.
Indeed, those pedals seem promising. Have to check that plexdrive.

It sounds great - I could use that sound myself.

Complete aside, where does your accent hail from? It sounds Scandinavian.

Re: The best Marshall I've ever played (and more...)

Just got my JMP Drive in the mail today... ordered it on Thursday night and it was here this morning... when Prymaxe says "expedited shipping", they aren't kidding.

It's tiny, the same size as a Catalinbread Dirty Little Secret... very light too... lighter than the DLS.

I got a $240 pedal for a little over $200 with their Mother's Day 16% off orders over $95 deal... the sale is still going on and ends tonight if anyone is looking for some great deals on boutique stuff.

I haven't tried it yet but will plug in sometime this afternoon and report back here. For now, enjoy the excellent demo by Harry Maes.

Okay... got the chance to play it for a few minutes into my '66 Princeton Reverb (haven't stacked it yet).

The tone is pure 70's metal panel goodness! It has that throaty low midrange and the low end thwack of a 4x12 cabinet which I find usually lacking in most Marshall in a boxes. There is GOBS of low end on tap... I have good punchy and meaty tone with the bass on zero. lolz

But what's really amazing are two things... the highs are NOT fizzy but sweet and musical

and

The pedal really responds to picking dynamics and volume knob changes... almost ZERO compression with this pedal which gives it a very convincing amp-like feel. I'm going to mess with it some more and stack it with a few things later on (might even make a small recording with it for grins and giggles).

The sound is retro and vintage... absolutely nails the JMP tone and feel.

Oh and the tone is exactly like it is in the video

Oh man, I'm glad you love it as much as I do Geoff. It really is an incredible pedal. My feelings after playing it a lot over the last few weeks and even using it for about half my last gig echo your initial impressions, so I doubt you'll fall out of love with it.

The dynamics are indeed insane. It doesn't get perfectly clean at maximum gain (although I do run my Bassman slightly dirty, that could be it) but it gets damn close. With the gain around 1 o clock or less, you can get really beautiful clean up.

I love the active EQ - if you can't get a useable tone with it, it's not the gear. And the midrange switch is absolutely fantastic - I can go from Pantera with the gain around 3PM and the "mid mids" cut a bit to AC/DC with the gain around noon and boosting the high mids a touch.

It really is a fantastic pedal. I recommend it to anyone that can afford it (yes, it's expensive, but the best of stuff usually is).

Re: The best Marshall I've ever played (and more...)

Well, with their discount, it wasn't that expensive... $10 more dollars than the Pinnacle, $40 more than the Catalinbread DLS, $60 more than the Brownie... not too much more expensive than the other best selling brown sound in a box pedals.

This pedal is indeed a brown sound in a box... lots of magic going on within this rather modest sized pedal. It stacks just as well as the Catalinbread Dirty Little Secret (which is very stackable).

The special recipe for me was: my old MIJ BOSS CS-3 -> Weehbo JMP Drive ->Badgerplex AC ->ISP Decimator ->clean high quality tube amp with spring reverb = a tone that will knock your socks off.

I am in full on pedal love and 70's Marshall-in-a-box heaven. I'll try and record a sample tomorrow.

Thanks so much for turning me on to this pedal J, you rock man.
