the best solid state amps

Re: the best solid state amps

Never heard a single good thing about the Marshall MG, especially the bigger ones.

Yeah. I used to MGs a 30W and a 50W. I wouldn't buy either but they're better than my POS 15W Fender, which I intend to replace this summer with a tube head and 4x12 cab.

Re: the best solid state amps

I'll elaborate on my JC comment....

My rig used to consist of a Peavey Rockmaster high-gain tube preamp going into the effects channel of a Roland JC-120. In front of the Rockmaster was a TS-9, a Rat, a Metal Zone, a Crybaby Wah, an EHX Small Stone, and a Digitech RP6 in one of the Rockmaster's loops for delay and stuff like that. My main guitars at the time were a Jackson PS-4 with two EMG 81s, a Yamaha Strat with a Screamin' Demon, a Charvel Avenger (RR style), and a stock Epiphone Les Paul. With that rig, I could pull get ANY sound I wanted, from Enter Sandman style pristine cleans to Pantera.

I wish I still had the amp and preamp, at the very least.

Re: the best solid state amps

Definitely Peavey XXl. I got one and it's very close to awesome. High gain voicing sounds excellent, british voicing is also great. It responds well to pedals too. I suggest you try it and take it seriously.

Another vote for the Peavey XXL.

Re: the best solid state amps

I had a randall commander 120 head a few years back, nice amp, nowhere near loud enough.
