the David Gilmour Strat...

Re: the David Gilmour Strat...

I didn't realize that it was the first time for DSOTM since '75 until a couple months later.

Without a doubt still the best show I have ever seen.

It is a shame that the Silver Dome is up for sale. Lots of cool history there.

Re: the David Gilmour Strat...

This thread compelled me to read up on the Black Strat.

Whod'a known the neck on that thing is an AVRI!?

I sure didn't haha...

What was funny on Thanksgiving this year..
During the traditional Lions matchup, and Thanksgiving Digestion..
They threw up a wierd stat..
That the Silverdome had been sold for $580.000.00
I remember what Zepilin was paid for the show I seen there in 1977..
A record for its day, $650.000.00..:chairfall
When it was built 52 Million.. :(

I still want to know why we have previously been told that this thing (and supposedly Gilmour's own black Strat) has SSL1s and one SSL5, only to now find it has two Fender pickups (which weren't even products when Gilmour had his set up) and the SSL5.

Given that I don't hear a SSL5 when Gilmour plays the whole affair reminds me of that nonsense Blackmore signature Strat that Fender did.

Not that I say it isn't a good guitar but I think the pickups are chosen WRT to the intended audience, not to make a clone.

I think it's a legitimate question.

I might be biased towards not liking all that endorsement stuff and celebrities advertising random stuff, but I was hoping that this is a little less bogus than average.

Re: the David Gilmour Strat...

I can't find nor can I remember any claim that the guitar had an SSL-5 and two SSL-1s.

The bridge pickup that was wound by Seymour for DG's black strat became known as the SSL-5.

I am pretty sure that the neck and middle pickukps in the original black strat are a late 1960's and early 1970's stock Fender pickups.

Correct. So this is one of the most accurate signature guitars Fender has made.

Regardless, Gilmour's tone has more to do with his amps, pedals, fingers and the fact that it is a Strat than the specific pickups. I use an SSL-1/SSL-1/Stelly and get pretty close.
