The Edge Tone

Hey I got a question about The Edge and his effect chain on With or Without you

How does he stack those delays
And what is the sequence of the chain

Are there other pedals in the chain

Could someone give me precise settings for the delays?
Please

The Edge Tone

I always thought it was one delay, or at least I’ve always gotten away with using one delay to do Edge sounds.

I thought he demonstrated how he does it in the movie “It Might Get Loud”?

Do you have a Korg SDD-3000? Precise settings won’t work unless you have the same delay.

Re: The Edge Tone

Oh sorry .
Trying to get it with a DD7.
I haven't seen the whole movie , just clips here and there.

Thanks

Re: The Edge Tone

Well, finish watching the movie, and make some space in your rack.

Re: The Edge Tone

I'm not an Edge expert nor major fan (but I am a tone whore).

Perhaps this will help unravel at least some of the mystery:

Infinite Guitar

The Infinite Guitar is a modified electric guitar created by Michael Brook, as a way of allowing a note to be held with infinite sustain (hence the name). It consists of an electronic circuit that takes the signal from a standard guitar pickup, amplifies it, and feeds it back into a separate pickup coil. When set up and used correctly, the result is a continuous sustained note that can be used as is, or treated to create new sounds or emulate traditional instruments.

In addition to his own instrument, based on a Tokai copy of a Stratocaster, Brook produced two other Infinite Guitars. One belongs to Daniel Lanois, and the other belongs to The Edge of U2, who famously used it to record "With or Without You" from 1987's The Joshua Tree.

Apparently this was mentioned in the liner notes off the Joshua Tree album.

Re: The Edge Tone

Those numbers must be for different manufacturers delays? Seems way excessive. I survived the 80’s doing U2 tunes with just 320ms, 340ms and 400ms. On one tune I needed to drop to like 160ms or something, but that was it. In storage I still have my notebook with all my original Korg SDD-3000 settings. I’ll dig it out and post when I can.

The numbers are from die-hard Edge tone chasers (U2 online community) and their findings.

Re: The Edge Tone

How funny - here's Seymour himself (official SD YouTube channel) with Daniel Lanois' "Infinite Sustain" guitar:

I think in reality it’s somewhere in between. I’m confident not everyone on that list was matching tempos with controlled studio gear. I think we all know how die-hard tone chasing fans can be idiots using the wrong gear based on inaccurate information and way over thinking what the guy actually did.
